Jerry on the game

its a bad year, a really bad one. but its one year. if it was a coach who golfed with a few people he'd be afforded 4 more of these seasons. people are killing Sha not even halfway in , during NIL era, having a good season last year, and having a history of going deep in the tournament.

look at some of our bad losses 10ish years ago.

we kill our own guy whose had tournament success for one bad year... why? hmmm
For people following the program 40, 50, 60 years this is up there with the worst they have ever seen. You want to ignore that because he won 3 big games at another school 3 years ago, you can. But this conversation is happening after a win not a loss. The wins aren’t even encouraging.

Stop with the NIL era. We would all be there right with you if the teams we are playing have 5 million dollars of salaries. These teams do not. 6 of the 9 are far below us and I can’t imagine FAU or VCU are far superior to us. Maybe only Vandy is.

yup. its a terrible year. is it time to pack up from Sha? what do you think?
Of course not. Seton Hall isn't firing a loyal son after rug pulling him before the season. Honestly, we should be thanking him for not sprinting out the door after the school didn't get him the resources to keep Kadary (especially) and Dre.

NIL has everything to do with it. and it's the exact reason why this season is terrible for us. Sha did great last season. do you consider that?

PJ years look very similar to me starting out. he had no elite 8 under his belt before that.

Sha did good last season, not great. We were a top 50 kenpom team, which is basically the Willard standard. The NIT was awesome, but we also pissed the bed in the non-conference making an NCAA bid all the more difficult. And here we are pissing the bed in the non-conference again. Not good.

But you're obviously right about the NIL. The school needs to do a much better job supporting Shaheen. What happened last offseason is untenable, and Shaheen should run away as fast as he can if it doesn't improve.

how does NIL have everything to do with it when it comes to the teams we played? Great and NIT do not go together. Just like last year the 4th place big east team may end up with 12 or 13 wins but it’s not because they are so great. The bottom is bad.

PJ years aren’t similar at all and it’s not worth comparing at all since the landscape is so different.

He also asked for additional money for his coaches with that pay raise and got it.

Come July 1 of next year Sha can take any portion of his salary and devote it to NIL.

landscape much harder now. everything lost football domination is harder for shu.

the roster is built to try and compete in the big east in the NIL world. noon or bust and backfired this year. the logic wasn't crazy going into it, now we know. the teams we play dont have as much turnover as we did. our best guys leaving for NIL. how do you replace a new team and continue the same great results we had last year? we cant keep that level without talent like richmond and davis. and we don't have enough money for them. so sha takes a flyer on past talent that is damaged goods. hoping for the boom, got the bust.

its not that hard. its directly related to NIL. these talented guys this year have proven to be uncoachable. the alternative would have been better but would it really have competed in the big east?

NIL every day and all day and you'll see shu turn irrelevant because of it

As I posted elsewhere, dumping on our (successful) coaches is a SHU tradition.

He's getting paid 2 1/2million
Ok, so is every other P6 coach, most of them earn more than Holloway. But our guy has a $1-2 million NIL pot and these other guys, with fewer accomplishments, have $3+ million dollar NIL pots.

I can’t believe you believe this. Poor SHU had players taken from them. The players who have beaten us or kept these games close we could afford. These little schools should be saying damn Seton Hall raided our roster. The last 2 games we could honestly say the 2 guys who were toughest to guard were on the other team. You can’t ignore the fact we could afford those guys.

This is only going to get crazier now that the schools and employees can contribute directly. I hope someone is doing multi-year contracts with the players because that's what you need. IDK if players will sign them, but if we're competitive enough to get the players we do have then I don't see why it isn't possible.

With The Hall, let's say we had a world where Coleman (SO), Middleton (SO), Dual (SO), Erheriene (F), and Felton (F) all had 2-3 year deals. People would feel better about the long term because at least there's some investment in development and a nucleus.

Our challenge with this team is the experienced players aren't good enough to lift us - Addae-Wusu, Aligbe, Toumi - and that's where you gotta nail Free Agency.

If schools are forcing coaches to take salary cuts and big name coaches keep quitting I think the NCAA will finally come to their senses or at least have no choice but to implement some type of rules

No but there’s plenty of players this year at the mid majors we played that are better than ours. True or am I off base? Why didn’t we raid their rosters is the question. Do they have more NIL than us? We couldn’t find a better straw to stir the drink at mid majors? We have a lot of players who need development and have high potential, but the odds of them transferring before they reach their potential is extremely high. We need guys who are ready to reach their potential and worry about next year, next year. High upside freshmen and sophomores is extremely high risk in today’s landscape.

so schools aren't saying that about seton hall? am i off base?

most of our players were highly rated recruits. way higher than the smaller schools. sha took a flyer. it backfired. this isnt the first time. just so happens our entire roster turned over and all the flyers burned out

I’d say Od Dominion would take Jenkins back in a heartbeat. So I’m sure their fan base isn’t happy we took him. The rest of them probably don’t care because they upgraded.

We literally had 2 players taken from us. I don’t see the posts of can’t believe Malachi Brown is somewhere else. Which school didn’t lose 2 key players to the portal. It’s probably a handful
