Jerry - SHU player reunion

Hopefully a good crowd and lots of introductions.

Anyone marketing this besides Jerry? Bueller?

The sad part is with the current free agency environment in college basketball, these types of things won't happen anymore. If you are Femi Odukule, you would be criss crossing the country every week to attend these things...lol

This is John Yablonski's idea.

No one in SHU thought of this?
The athletic department has attempted something similar in the past but I’m not sure what kind of effort they really put into it. Overall, alumni outreach has never been a strong suit of the university. If it was our alumni giving would be a hell of a lot better than it is.

i say alumni is also to blame for alumni giving rates

It's a great thing, but we have to turn even a positive into an indictment of the entire University. Obviously, this group of guys (and more that couldn't make it) feels enough connection, with the school or with each other, to come back.
As far as the event itself, it’s also the type of stunning lack of common sense that is accepted at this school. They should promote it all over social media have a campaign with flashbacks, a cool thing, some of pride and content.

This is low hanging fruit.

So, Ivy has me thinking of which two players I would take off the list (realizing that most of them would help us in some way) and put in our starting lineup. The first is a no-brainer for me - the best big on the board - Anthony Avent. Then I debated between point guard or shooting guard before ultimately settling on the shooter, Dan Callandrillo.

By the way, looking forward to seeing the reunion tomorrow! Great memories.

C'mon, Ivy! The much maligned Bayonne Taty and Charles Manga? Those are the two you select from that list?
Manga had a decent season as a Senior starter in Orr’s first season. Definitely would be an upgrade to our current situation. Think he had a great game when we nearly upset #1 Duke in Maui and lost by 1.

The Varsity Reunion was a solid event the first two or three years the University did it. It seemed to lose its shine after that (I attended as a guest a couple of times and attendance was so-so). I think after the novelty wore off, it meant less (imagine having a HS reunion every year).

There was a period of time, probably during the Lyons administration, that there was an emphasis on getting former athletes involved with their respective programs and the school at large. I'm not sure (and I'm not close enough to know) if that remains a priority.

Doubtful as alumni engagement as a whole isn’t a really big priority. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember Lyons doing this sort of outreach though, at least initially. Felt doesn’t seem to do any of this though, not really sure what he does.

Alumni outreach, be it athletics or student body at large, seemed to reach its peak when Esteban and Lyons were in charge of the University and the Athletic Department. Whatever the reasons may be, both seemed to have taken a sharp turn downward again since Felt and the revolving door of Presidents have taken over.

Should have at least announced the names of the alum that were on the court. Great touch adding the cheerleaders though.. SH does little to nothing to connect to alums other than the annual call asking for donations. Why not open a practice or 2 for fans to engage. No creativity shown by the admin to make us feel like part of the SHU family.

Pathetic— do a meet and greet with the alums and charge fans reasonable price to go… so many missed opportunities

The social media accounts have taken a pretty dramatic downturn as well. Just a few years ago they had some great content.
