You're making it more complicated than it needs to be.
Do all humans have eyes? Yes
Would it be racist to comment about a black person's eyes? No.
Why? Because there is no history of using a black person's eyes in a derogatory way.
Would it be racist to comment about an Asian person's eyes? Yes.
Why? Because there is a history of people using Asian peoples eyes in a derogatory way.

i hope you teach your kid about all the minority stereotypes. really ingrain it into their brain so they never communicate to people equally. make sure they know that black people have big lips. and asians have slanted eyes. if they didnt focus on these characteristics then make sure they do now. so they will treat black and asian people differently from white people.

It's really not the same. Gruden knows Smith. Smith knows Gruden. You want me to make the comment to a stranger. If I make the comment about my buddy's ears he'll laugh. You make the same comment to him he might use his wrestling skills against you. It's a little different knowing someone than suggesting someone say something to a random stranger.
I didn't tar and feather anyone. I said it wasn't a big deal and easily forgivable.
Intent is what matters to me, and I don't think his intent was to be racist.

Sorry, making fun of the size of a black persons lips is deeply rooted in Jim Crow era racism. Just because you don’t understand the history, that doesn’t mean it’s not real.
I wouldn’t make fun of a black persons lips or hair, a Chinese persons eyes, a Jewish persons nose. Etc... not saying there is anything wrong with anything about them, but because the derogatory caricatures that have been portrayed about these groups making fun of those features.
Again, intent is what’s important here though. If you say something hurtful to someone, you apologize and say that want your intent and move on.

remember the two black female students calling two white males racist for sitting in the multicultural library. their presence was offensive and they were racist for being there. these actions bridge normal actions with being racist. where does the line blur?

No? I'm very much on board with them being "cancelled" and don't believe Gruden should be. Again, it goes back to intent for me. I think there is room for someone to say something inappropriate, apologize and move on but don't have much wiggle room for domestic abuse. It's a joke that the NFL doesn't have higher standards there.
I would say Ray Rice and Chad OchoCinco did not recover or gain their next chance. I would say that those mentioned above had their events adjudicated by the legal/judicial systems and NFL dealt with situations based on their own personal conduct policy that applies to all individuals. An owner, GM, head coach is a front facing member of an organization and the NFL has shown in the personal conduct policy era that they hold field coaching and front office administration to a stanard and have given punishments.
All most people on this thread is spewing is a bunch of whataboutism....Gruden coming to the podium on Tuesday and saying though I made these remarks on email I am willing to show contrition and is not really who I am would have been a total crock of you know what.
More here though, Bruce Allen should never hold an nfl position again. He was so comfortable in his role on a team email account that he sent off topless cheerleader photos from his very own franchise.

What a crock. Front facing members of an NFL organization? Without looking it up who are the QB, TE, GM, and owner for the SuperBowl champ Buccaneers. I know the QB and TE, but have no clue of their owner or GM and I'm guessing that's true for most of the country. When TB12 or Gronk speak, people listen more than when their owner, GM, or coach speak. I'd also bet I don't know half of the coaches in the NFL. I don't even know the head coach of the bills who have always been my favorite team. I know they had Chuck Knox, Marv Levy, Rex Ryan and Wade Phillips in the past, besides that I draw a blank.
Be real, the front facing members get off the hook for the most part.

Now that you said it, I know the name, but I didn't know who it was off the top of my head. I have no clue who the jets coach or dolphins coach is either. As long as the bills continue to recognize that fat guys win football games, I'm good. Great draft with all offensive and defensive line guys. Protect Allen and get to oppositions QB. What a difference of Allen running for his life in the AFC championship, while Mahomes stood calmly in pocket as opposed to this past weekend where Allen had all day and all night to throw.

I do love what Beane (GM) has done. They were rotating 9 DL on sunday night to harass Mahomes.
Beane and McDermott completely changed culture when they came on board in 2017.
Fat guys win football games. Sunday was the first half of a football game I watched and I was impressed with the fat guys on both sides of the ball. Truthfully I didn’t watch much because the Sox and Rays were playing 13.
It is not garbage it was actual fact...raiders are 5 games into a season, do you think 53 players would have universally felt ok with gruden continuing as head coach? I dont. I was on high school sports teams where i did not care for certain teammates. I am sure certain players were not thrilled that incognito was on roster.
