NEW YORK - After scoring the lone goal to help the Seton Hall men's soccer team defeat Manhattan, 1-0, freshman Til Kauschke (Hamburg, Germany) has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second straight week that the Pirates have earned one of the conference's top weekly honors.

In addition, sophomore Jon Vigunr Pétursson (Selfoss, Iceland) was recognized on the BIG EAST's weekly honor roll for his part in helping the Pirates beat UAlbany and complete a shutout against Manhattan.

Kauschke has been aggressive in his shot taking so far this season, and it paid dividends this past Sunday when he one-timed a pass from Jared Smith (Longfellow, Mass.) in the box, blasting it past the Jaspers goalkeeper in the 68th minute. It was his first career goal.

Pétursson was solid as a defensive midfielder centerback in both the Manhattan game and the 2-1 win over UAlbany. After Sam Bjork was tripped in the box with 48 seconds remaining in the second half of a 1-1 match with the Great Danes, it was Pétursson's name that was called to take the penalty kick, and he converted to give the Pirates the 2-1 win.

Kauschke, Pétursson and the Pirates have started 3-0-0 for the second straight season and look to start 4-0-0 for the first time since 2008 when they host Columbia Friday at Owen T. Carroll Field at 6:56 p.m. The game is free for all to attend.
