That's the headline I want to read come April. Seton Hall's next hire needs to be a guy that wins basketball games. I don't care about anything else. Sampson wins.

Double his salary at Houston and lets go.

He also leaves his schools on probation. Oklahoma, Indiana, who's next??

You're becoming quite the laugh riot here lately. Might as well hire Pete Best.

I think the real riot was when you told us "Willard has a plan." What was it? Torpedo the program into the ground.

Other programs don't have any issues taking on these type of coaches. San Diego St., Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky, Syracuse...

My list would look something like this:

Danny Hurley
Leon Rice
Tom Crean (assuming he gets fired)
Bruce Weber (assuming he gets fired)
Travis Ford (assuming he gets fired)
Kelvin Sampson

Uhm. . . NO!

Simone84, I don't understand why you are pushing this conversation now. At the end of the season, if we have another bad one, then it will be time for such a discussion.

Ugh, ugh, ugh.

I would add Jim Engel from NJIT to my short list.
Interesting name. Took one of the worst teams in all of college hoops to at least average. I still think it is too much of a gamble. Need a winner. Seton Hall is paying a loser 1.5 million. 2 million could fetch one helluva coach.

I remember SPK saying willard had a plan. And I think the operative mood of those posts was sarcasm.

Well, that plan never materialized. I was in his corner but his results speak for himself. May be time for not just better but good.

dear god please no

Put me on the list of guys that thinks Willard has been fine so far this year. I think we let it play out and then decide. This is not the time for the conversation. We should all be supporting the team the way it is, bc nothing is going to change.

In general the board is wayyyyy to harsh towards him in my opinion.

-He has us playing hard this year so far, and the players seem to be responding to his 'change in personality'.

- I was OK with the Willard decision to not play Angel vs LBST.

- Also finally saw an inbound play being run! I haven't seen that in at least a decade around here.

- Not a huge fan of our lack of sets on offense with too many dribble hand offs, but I am willing to keep and open mind and see what develops as the season goes along. Seem like we are a "screen" and move type of team.

If not Danny Hurley than Brian Gregory if he gets fired at Georgia Tech after the season. Hewitt left that program in shambles. He actually has about the same buyout as Willard does (that's just ludicrous). So, don't think he would command a ridiculous salary. Had 5 20 win seasons at Dayton w/3 tourney and 3 NIT appearances. A10 on same level as Big East w/men's hoops. Think he would be good fit here. Probably the most realistic guy to get that has won and taken his teams to the post season before.

Engle is someone who deserves a look. Although it is a huge jump from NJIT to Seton Hall and would be risky, this guy has done a great job.

Never been involved at any level with major college basketball, that's just WAY too risky.

I heard Dave Bliss is around...
Dave Bliss' bio at the NAIA school he currently coaches at references his "indiscretions" at Baylor. That's a polite way to put it, I suppose.

By the way, did anyone else know Quin Snyder is actually a HEAD COACH in the NBA? I found that out recently and it nearly blew my mind. And he apparently has been for over a year.

LOL!! I had no idea either, but that also shows you how much I follow the NBA...

Isn't Houston the Nevada Las Vegas of the Southwest? Didn't they hire (and fire) Tom Penders after had got run out of Texas?

We have gone through this every four or five years since P.J. bolted in 1994.
Five years ago, the hot prospect was the Cornell coach who was one (contract)-and-done at BC.
Four years before that is was Gonzo. Some guys are on the list more for more than one go-around:
the Davidson coach for example. I don't think Pat Kennedy is working.

I feel as if we should re run old posts from '94, '97, 2001, 2006, 2010.
As my mother would say, "it is starting to sound like a broken record".... for those of you who remember records.

Crean just lost again in Maui to UNLV. Hard to see him surviving the year given all the backlash towards him. It was just on Mike & Mike how an IU professor embarassed Crean's daughter in a class last season.

Since he is familar with the BE and he did recruit and get a verbal from Tyshawn Taylor from Bob Hurley's St. Anthonys before he left MU. Maybe without all the presure and media attention he has some good years left. Perhaps like a Mike Anderson or Sampson and he has none of the baggage like the latter?
