Congrats. I am so pleasantly surprised by our coaching this year.

I don't think we should be celebrating KW till we make the tourney...that's my viewpoint anyway bc 6 years in you better be dancing at least once...

And if IW and Delgado leave at the conclusion of year and we don't make tourney, it won't be any easier next year.

We get selected on selection Sunday this year then we can give him props.

3 more wins in reg season and a big east tourney win away from being a lock.

Thank you for clarifying when it's appropriate for posters to congratulate the coach. Taken into consideration.

He was ALWAYS an excellent defensive coach. But so so recruiting was an issue and without the horses it wasn't evident to our fans.

Now he has the horses (minus a shot blocker in the middle) and the results speak for themselves.

How many times last night did the D deflect the ball disrupting Georgetown's offensive sets?

Great Job Coach! Seems to be steering the ship just right this year. Let's win the whole damn thing. Why not?

You're welcome. Somebody needs to be even keel around here. Not to be too excited during the highs and not too low during the lows.

Looking at the big picture is the way to go. I'll celebrate the players all day after a good performance like ribs one not the coach though. The time to celebrate the coaching staff is at the end of the season when we get invited to NCAA and have a few recruits lined up.

I agree in the sense that the job is not finished yet. Missing the NCAA's at 18-7, 8-5 would be worse than what happened in 2012.

Nevertheless we have been so deprived I see nothign wrong with giddiness and praise for the marked improvement seen this year. We've had enough cold water dumped on us for 10 years that I think it's great people are excited.

I don't even want to think about next year yet anyway. The most exciting part of the season - March - is still on the horizon.

Whether or not he reached 100 fast enough (I say not), or if we'll make the NCAAs this year (I say we do), there is nothing wrong with a post congratulating him becoming the 6th coach in SHU history to reach that milestone. If you don't recognize it, then don't. But pissing on a congratulatory thread is just another example of the excrement on this board.

Strong words there Sami. I think you may be used to the poor product that the hall has given us the past few years...setting the bar low for you.

I just think it silly to celebrate the coach who has not been successful for us in the last 5 years before we even get into the tourney. We still have work to do is my point.
I fully expect Willard to get us into tourney this year and be the next great hall coach. If doesn't then he isn't and shouldn't be congratulated.

Stay hungry stay humble my friend, we are not out of the woods yet.

It's the middle of February and we are in 3rd place in the league. Who in there right mind saw this coming this season? Willard's gotten the job done. People are crazy to say he hasn't done a good job this season. Ridiculous.

Nobody is saying he hasn't done a good job this year so far. My point is the year isn't over and if we don't make the tourney, celebrating 100 wins in 6 years is silly. I think we should hold back applause till we get in tourney. Go 3 and 5 and I'll be celebrating KW with you.

FYI, I think people are upset with my post not because they disagree but because they think It's not right to poo poo on a thread started to celebrate the coach...the thread was not started as a congratulatory thread, it was started to say hey you got 100, lets get to 103 and we are in the tourney and in great shape. The thread turned into a love fest and I was trying to be the voice of reason.

Jeez people...

Agreed. It's better to say nothing if that's your point of view.

I haven't been a Willard fan and I am currently undecided on him being the long term answer but,

he has done a good job this year. So congratulations.

In-bounds plays, plays out of timeouts, Substitution patterns have all improved over previous years. This year, I think he has a good pulse on what different players can bring to the table and how to best use them.

IMO his biggest improvement started in the preseason when he took a tougher stance in the locker room and on the practice court. He became the head coach and not a big brother.

He always knew the game. That was never a question for me. Those on the Trove know what I have been saying for years about his BB IQ.

My worries were off the court. Those worries have been extinguish.

Am I the only one who thinks this talk of "leaving" is silly? IW ok maybe ill buy that(still a year too soon IMO). Delgado isnt leaving yet. Still needs to improive mid-range game and get stronger. I am talking about leaving to go the NBA draft. If you throw in europe or something then who knows

Coach Willard deserves our congratulations for the great job this year. I'm extremely impressed that he changed his personality traits to become a more effective leader a la Tom Coughlin a few years back. It appears that he has instilled himself as an effective authority figure and the players responded to him in this role. Ironically, Coughlin became more of friend to the players and less of a martinet while Willard adopted the opposite approach.
.

Willard is the 19th coach in the program's 112 seasons of existence and only the 6th to reach the 100-plateau mark?

The team is also playing differently. Obviously the defense and rebounding, but also the offense.

Hard to believe a KW SHU team is 311th in 3PA:FGA ratio for example.

ShuBK, Dan said in the beginning of the year that he was informed Delgado was most likely done at the end of this season no matter how we do as a team. Ask him if that changed. I agree though that he probably could use a year to get that jump shot going a bit more. If Whitehead continues to play the way he is, I think he could be a late first rounder but you never know. IW was big east honor roll so maybe he wants to get his education first like a steph curry.

Must have me mixed up with someone else. I never said that.

Remember, prior to the 60s 20 game seasons were long. Along comes tv contracts and seasons went to 25. Now 30+. The early coaches had to stay a lot of years to get to 100. It took what's his name 5 2/3 seasons to get to 100 in the age of 30 game seasons.

KW has coached 187 games at SH with 100 wins and 87 losses ( .535 ).
His BE record is 38 wins and 65 losses ( .369 ).
74.7 % of his losses are in the BE.
62% of his wins are OOC
38% of his 100 wins are in the BE.

Since you appear to be the stat guru, would be interesting to know, if you know, how many of what's his name's 100 Ws came against teams in the 200+ and 300+ RPI ratings?

Unfortunately, every year there are dozens of kids who make the leap to the next level, even when they have no business doing so. Look, Isiah is playing himself into the first round, and if a kid leaves when he's being told he has a great shot at being a first round pick, all the more props to him. Guaranteed money in that scenario. If you aren't a first round lock, better to stay in school and improve IMO. Delgado falls into that territory. That said, it wouldn't surprise me, and I've heard repeatedly from those associated with NY/NJ hoops that both kids may leave if they have good season, which they both clearly are.

The above is what made the Kris Dunn situation so surprising. He was a lock first round pick last year, and yet he returned to school. That rarely happens these days. He is obviously gone after this year, and if I were a Providence fan I'd be concerned about Bentil leaving as well. He is built to play the 4 in the current NBA.
