LA Riots

Democrats under Clinton and it was not that long ago.
LOL, certainly not his first term, only when his hand was forced by the repubs

But let’s go back to taxing and spending at 19% of GDP, I’m all for it. You?

Clinton was a president for 8 years, 6 of which his party was not majority

Overstaying a Visa is not a crime. It’s a civil penalty. Even entering the country illegally is not a felony. It’s a misdemeanor for a first offense.

This policy by Trump by going after illegals is detrimental. You are a cop. So you should understand this. We in law enforcement spent years building trust with the immigrant community. Illegals were big targets of robberies. They always had cash on them and would not go to the police. They also had a lot information on crimes that we needed in law enforcement. We spent years stating please come to the police with information of crimes especially violent crimes. We promised them we would not ask for their legal status in the country. As a matter of fact, if you are a witness, you can get a temporary visa to stay so you can testify if needed. This paid off big dividends.
This policy ruins what took years to build. I personally went into these communities to speak and promised for them to trust law enforcement. This is all gone. And it’s not good for anyone.
Valid point about illegals being targeted for crimes because they were afraid to report it. As a matter of fact, the robbers had a name for it. They would call it "hooking a Poppie". I'll go with the premise that law enforcement should not turn over illegals when they are crime victims. However, any crime committed by an illegal (felony, misdemeanor or DWI) should have them immediately sent back to their country of birth. I also would not reward them for entering illegally with amnesty. Get caught, get sent back.

Probably not popular with my party but I don't have a problem with offering foreigners work visas. They would need to go through valid screening during the application process, get fingerprinted, give them an ID card that must be presented upon request, give them social security numbers, ensure they are paying taxes, must have a trackable address and must speak English. While they are working here, they can apply for citizenship but must wait in line like anyone else trying to come here the right way.

I agree that work visas, DLs and SS numbers. should be expanded and those who do have a pathway to citizenship. That’s common sense approach. Like it or not, America needs foreign workers. Deport all and you will see a lot of issues in the labor field.

In my area, it was called “Rob a Rican” or then “pop a poppie”. Some of these guys were killed during these robberies. I’m a afraid we will return to theses days once again.

Exactly, he gets kudos for being pragmatic when his hand was forced. We don't have that from any side today.
Clinton raised taxes in 1993. Great move. Great revisionist history though by you. Clinton wanted a balanced budget and he vetoed the bill sent to him by Gingrich. A government shutdown then ensued and Clinton won that battle. A year later we have a deficit surplus for the rest of the Clinton years.

yes! Trump is the cause of this kind of violence. Should have added that although I know it was implied.

19% of GDP revenue and spending, you didn’t say you were for it or against it.

Not realistic today. Spending of GDP is 36%. That is too high. But, the real question is where to cut? First, taxes need to be raised to Clinton levels. Second, SS min age should be raised to 64 and take off the limitations of income SS tax. I don't have any other ideas to get it down. Hell, Musk could only cut $100 billion with indiscriminate firings. But going into more debt is certainly not the answer and will only exacerbate the issue. Where are those budget hawks in Congress??

Do high earners get additional social security benefits for paying more into social security?

Tax carried interest at ordinary income rates, raise marginal rate to 45% over $1 million, eliminate public employee unions

You want a 10 million w2 to pay 4.5 mil to IRS good wish but a goal without a plan. What is background to elimination of public union? What make goods are you going to provide?

The other guy wants people to pay into social security without a cap, but never mentioned eliminating the cap when it comes to receiving the money. That's going to work out equally as well.

I would gladly pay more taxes if there was a guarantee of a balanced budget that went with it.

Until both parties agree to address Social Security (delay eligibility) and Medicare/Medicaid we won’t move the needle like it needs to. We are approaching healthcare consumption hitting 20% of GDP. Not sustainable.

Tax all income equally with lower rates across the board, no tax on dividends, and lower spending across the board.

How about just do a flat consumption tax of 15 to 20 percent...affluent people will purchase their wants, economically challenged will purchase their needs

At this point what is a fair age for social security collection? Should it be tied to Maha going forward,

Why is this an issue? I was an worker who made over the limit for 25 years. I didn’t get top payout. You have to be over the limit for 35 years to receive that. Isn’t this the answer to fully fund SS? Raise the age and eliminate the cap? No one can get fully what they want. What need to be done and those two tweaks should work to fully fund SS

so now trump is trying to protect federal buildings from riots instead of incite riots of federal buildings?? maybe the rioters should just shout rigged 2020 election and we'd all be cool

National Guard is assisting ICE providing cover and protection for arresting illegals. The ICE raids are continuing despite the riots.

Maxine, Nancy and the rest of the crew are back to calling these peaceful protests. Anybody in LA doing anything worse than Babbitt? If so should they face the same consequence?

Public employees can often retire with a pension higher than their final salary because OT pay in last year.Pensions are often COL adjusted who in private sector has these benefits.Nobody the rest of us just pay for them.NY Shore guy current top rate is 37% so yes I think 10 million guy could pay 4.5 million versus 3.7 million under current schedule. My preference is a flat tax but since that or consumption tax which is regressive not going to pass have to deal with realities.

Public employees in NJ cannot earn a pension based on overtime. NY pension system is different. They can earn a pension based on OT. That is where you see Port Authority Police get crazy OT in their last two years to boost their pension. This abuse should be legislated out and capped. But for some reason it keeps going. At least in NJ there is not that abuse.

NJ state employees pension (includes county and municipal) is a % off their base salary depending on how long the person worked. It does not include overtime or side work. There is no COL adjustments. The pension remains the same until he/she dies. The person receiving the pension also paid into it throughout his/her career. The average for police officers (not sure with other state employees) is 7 years of collecting a pension before he/she dies.

Kind of odd how those who spoke out so strongly about Jan 6 are quiet about what's happening with these protests that are turning violent.

You made over the limit but you didn't pay in over the limit. Would you have been happy to pay in another 10K, 25K or 50K a year in which you get no return on investment? Your portfolio wouldn't be what it is today if you did that. Your wages might not have even been what they were if your company was paying out an extra 7.65% on the money over the limit. I'm sure small businesses would love to do that with their key employees just shell out an extra $76,500 if they a couple key employees that combine for $1,000,000 over the SS Cap.

Really? You are going to compare the two events? Laughable just like your President.
Jan 6 only purpose was to overt turn the election and violently overthrow a government. There was nothing peaceful about Jan 6.

Here we have protests that are largely peaceful. Anyone who does property damage or violence should be arrested and prosecuted period. And they should not get pardoned.

Trump is already acknowledging that his policies are over the top. Oh well when it comes to affecting his friends. The ridiculous enforcement by ICE has triggered these protests.

So lift the cap to $400,000. A person would still be collecting double of what the put into SS.

not sure it's them being quiet and more that it's not even in the same stratosphere as overthrowing the nations capitol to deny an election as directed by then president where law enforcement died and the mob was trying to kill the elected officials.

i don't think anyone condones violence. i sure don't. the LA stuff is bad. i'm not looking forward to the no kings protests across cities: the outrage with hypocrisy should be more on our president who single handedly started the above now crying about the stuff in la and sending in national guard. he used to like violence against the government. don't think he'll pardon all the people in LA?

Stratosphere? One day vs over a week. And the president ran on doing this, won, and is now doing it.

Very similar in both sides crying we lost and not liking the consequences of losing

Are you going to tell me the officers injured on Jan 6 are more valuable than the officers injured in these riots?

What happened to the Democrats? Bill Clinton was a good president - similar to Trump in a few ways. You can also find similar comments from Obama and Hillary over the years on this topic.

Newsom and Bass have done a horrendous job in managing another crisis. Newsom lied about the phone call with Trump and a week later still has yet to visit LA. We learned the first time how bad they are and dealing with the wildfires.

All the hysteria about the National Guard and Marines has turned out to be BS as well. National Guard is protecting ICE so they can continue to do their job. Nonsense about it being mostly peaceful protest. Vandalism, throwing rocks a d fireworks at cops, looting, graffiti everywhere. Now the narrative is it’s only one square mile. What does that have to do with anything?

There have been 400 arrests in LA. Most of the arrests were for failure to disperse. No details on how many arrests for assaulting police. We know one person was arrested for a Molotov cocktail and one was arrested for possession of a gun. Certainly there was vandalism of property. But let’s not make this out to be a Rodney King riot. These are protests with the occasional violent actors. There is no excusing violence or destruction of property. They should be prosecuted.

Also, what are you saying bout Newspmw lying bout a phone call. Seems like Trump lied.

Funny you compared it to the Rodney King riots, which were one of the worst in LA history. Stop dismissing riots, looting, vandalism and attacks on law enforcement. It all happened. Bass publicly stated that the vandalism and graffiti were widespread in the affected areas.

Perhaps having the National Guard there probably prevented worse because of their presence.

Resorting to some Euro network about the phone call? You would think Newsom would be all over this. He failed on the wildfires and has yet to show up in LA.

Why would Seattle police use tear gas to breakup the riots when everone knows they are peaceful. It must all be Trump’s fault.CNN assures us everything is peaceful ,but they assured us Biden was fine so much for their credibility.Eric Swalwell says they are peaceful but he was banging a Chinese girl who turned out to be a spy.Poor Eric he thought she was having sex with him because he is he is hansome no Eric she was after secrets not your joy stick.
