Later Coleman

So much for being told otherwise! Just a bad look. That said, I want guys who want to be here. Looking like we’ll be looking at a whole new squad again.
Is there anybody that actually wants to be at Seton Hall? Judging by this years roster, it appears we’re a last option destination… and it doesn’t look like that’s about to change

Look at the way the tournament is playing out, if you don't have NIL its over.

You cant even buy low and develop because when a kid shows signs of being good they are going to be poached.

Jerry hit the nail on the head with his post.

Hopefully the NCAA does something about it but from the football conferences perspective it really doesn't matter because they can fund it.

If we cant keep a kid like Coleman, who really wasn't great, the future is bleak... but hopefully I am wrong

Coleman vs Desi
Coleman vs Rhoden

I think they are all similar skill sets but Rhoden and Desi the only difference is they had a better team around them so they got less shots.

If P4P was around then, would they have stayed?
Who know but the trend is leaning that would would have left as well.

I was actually hopeful the season going into the NIT run, but right now the future looks bleak. I am a Coleman fan too but if we can secure that level of talent who can we secure?

I am sure Coleman wanted way more than Sha thought he was worth. And while i know nothing, i would not be surprised if Sha said, go out and see what your worth, and the door is always open (similar to Wusu).

On a 2-18 team, no one is worth $1M.
People criticize this statement. He is 7th man at best on st johns. What would that be worth. ?

It boils down to the status of the program. We are dead, our closest rivals are in the spotlight, we don’t play in the mega conference, etc.

If you’re offered similar money to a program with likely better winning potential I don’t think many will stay.

It's a tough situation. We had no money, poor practice facilities, and a ball-busting head coach. Not exactly a trifecta of enticement when easy money and easy going staffs are out there.

At least we now have the practice facilities. That's something.

I’d rather keep Felton, Godswill and Aligbe. Not sure we keep Felton but I’m hoping for Godswill and Aligbe. I think the way they finished the season they could valuable next season. I also think they’re the tough guys that will respond well to Sha

No more.undersized 4s and aligbe cant handle to play the 3. Bench player for not much $.

They are professionals. Coleman is a bad one at that. No need to overpay for a5th best guy at best on a good team
Coleman is a good player who was hurt by playing in a bad situation with little talent around him. Sometimes you have to overpay to keep a guy when your situation is bad and hope that he can with a little help take a big leap forward as an upperclassman. You keep him it is one less headache trying to replace him and having to convince an outsider 4 star player who will have many options to join a team that won 7 games all year. You are going to have to really overpay for that

There is a good chance if he finds the right situation and a more offensive minded coach Coleman will flourish next year.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in a bush

He’s going to be a great player IMO. The situation he was in this year was such a freaking disaster and it impacted his numbers big time. We’re talking one of the worst situations in the country this year. This team had nothing you had to worry about but him. You see the skills and upside.

It’s not good to keep going through this.

U can easily make a case over scott, wilcher or deivon smith. U cant tell me any of those players are better than coleman
i dont like piling on. but imo all three clearly better . good luck zay. i hoped he would stay.

Before everyone buries Coleman, isn't there a chance he goes into the portal but ultimately comes back? It's what DAW did last year.
Honestly I think it’s something everyone should do unless you’re 100% happy where you’re at. Only thing is you run the risk of your spot being gone. Arkansas will find another player 30 seconds after you’re in the portal. Seton Hall won’t at this point. It’s a leverage game. At seton hall the players have the leverage. At a place like Arkansas they dont.

Sha is the Owner , Chef , Waiter and Dish-Washer --
No choice but to watch what he shops for -- He has the money -maybe he is not hot for Coleman ?

Agree. He hired an agent weeks ago.Why would anyone be surprised he entered the portal? We'll see how it plays out.

I cooled a bit on Coleman towards the end of the season, so I’m not completely disappointed that he’s walking away. But Shaheen clearly wanted him back and he’s leaving anyway despite our supposed improved financial condition. Which is great.

While I like Coleman he really does not fit as a point guard, a 2 guard or at the 3 spot because his 3 point shooting and ball handing are not strong enough if you want a top of the league winning program. At those positions you need solid 3 point shooting in this day and age.
So if he leaves I am fine with it. It is not like he has extraordinary skills and abilities.

You’re right, bu he was our best player eligible to transfer without sitting out. If Kadary and Dre could have transferred that season without sitting, they’d have been gone too.
I find it odd they couldn’t find a loophole. Earl Timberlake played for 3 teams in 3 years. It’s not brain surgery to beat the ncaa.

If he requested $1.5 million then Sha had every right to say no.
