Seems inevitable. Dan's going to have to take cover when the announcement's made.

It'll be interesting to see how attractive this job is. You would think top three in the Big East.

Let's go to live to the Richie Regan Athletic Center....

It may be piling on a bit, but I LOLed.
Yeah, that was some low hanging fruit. But hallgrad just tee'd it up so nicely.

Just read a report that the AD recommended the contract extension but the president overruled him.

.@JPPelzman Sounds like St. John's was truly conflicted about Lavin. He did a decent enough job but left a lot of potential on the table.

In another thread you called it a bad job. Erratic posting.

The SJU job should probably be ranked 5th to 7th in the 10-team Big East.

Not really erratic, as top three In the Big East (behind Villanova and Georgetown) doesn't necessarily make it a good job. It's just moved up the food chain because the better jobs have left the league. Outside of Wright and Thompson, which Big East coaches do you see wanting to stay in their current jobs until retirement? The others are likely hanging around until they find a better job someplace else.

If St. John's were to rank as low as you say, then what you're essentially saying is that people in New York City don't care all that much about college basketball. I would agree with that, because NYC hasn't been a college basketball town in a long, long time. A Kentucky or a Duke might draw a good crowd to MSG, but none of the locals would even come close. People are more interested in the Knicks, even though they stink.

Laughable rankings. Xavier, Butler, Marquette, and Creighton have had much better teams in the past 15 years.

Mike rice, Lavin, willard all hired the same time. Only one of them is still employed and has 3.2 million left on his contract, and yet this coach had the worst record and was the worst overall recruiter. I think we can all guess who the big winner was here.

Doesn't Lavin's tenure at SJU seems a lot like Orr's here? Even what appear to be the "programmatic details" behind the scenes.

Assume everyone here things the coaching fraternity will want no part of their program? LOL

I see the similarities but Orr had Nutter, Gause, and Laing coming back among others. Lavin has literally no one coming back with one good recruit and two other guards. St John's was facing a reset anyway it seems like a good time for them to make a switch. Of course if they mess up the next two hires and go nine years without making a tournament they will look back and regret it.

Lavin went 46-44 in the Big East in 5 seasons with 2 NCAA bids, basically sat out his worst year (6-12) because of his cancer diagnosis and gets canned. Yet we over here at Seton Hall have a coach who went 30-60 over the same span in the same league, didn't have cancer and didn't get to the NCAA Tournament. He's still employed because our school is too cheap to bite the bullet. Seton Hall has the money, they just don't want to spend it.

UNBELIEVABLE!!

The pass that Willard has received at Seton Hall is beyond belief, it really is. The numbers are disgusting they're so ugly. His defeatist attitude towards everything infuriates the fan base, making it worse.

But he's our coach and that's that. Let's hope there's an epiphany next year. I'm certainly not going to boycott the program.

There will be an epiphany next year. He will be fired at seasons end. Everything about Willard is distasteful. I used to wonder why this guy could not close on his recruits. I think we now know the reason. If you sound like a bumbling fool every time you open your mouth, this is certainly going to carryover into your recruiting.
