Super excited for the new regime and super excited to have Holloway back home.
But unfortunately it appears that the Left Coast Pirates will be taking a step back and enjoying it purely as fans and not behind the mic. Tom broke the news earlier today on Twitter, so we will not be having one last episode to recap the season this time around. He gave his goodbye in his format/style, so now you get mine.
This has been a labor of love for us, but it is just that, a lot of labor that goes into the final product that is brought to you the listeners.
So for now this is a goodbye, because it could very well be the last episode we produce as the Left Coast Pirates. Who knows, maybe we have a change of heart.
However, it wouldn’t have been possible, without the loyal listeners we had. And you know who you are. We came a long way from that first hack of podcast we called episode 1 to the audience we were able to reach by episode 137. All the positive comments on rivals and twitter kept us pushing forward at times.
It was also a pleasure interviewing all the ex-ball players, collaborating with the Behind Enemy Lines reporters, plus getting insights from Bryan Felt, Tony Bozella, JP Pelzman, John Fanta, Zach Braziller, and countless others.
I love the fact since we started four years ago, many others jumped into this space in an effort to bring even more content to the Seton Hall fan base. Carino now does the Jersey Jump Shot podcast, the Front Office has done remarkable things, and Chris Paizis does a great job on Court-side Pirates. There are others that have quickly come and gone and others that say they are something else, but deep down we know they are Seton Hall alumni just trying to put their spin on things. Selfishly, I want to take credit for it, and think Left Coast Pirates inspired or pushed others to expand this forum of content.
Some have asked us what is next. At this time I am not sure what that answer is. All I know, is that I fell in love with being behind the mic and getting to share my thoughts. Not sure if I am considered a subject matter expert at this point or just someone who got you through your Monday morning commute with the occasional laugh after a tough loss. Regardless, I am flattered that on average about 500 people thought we were worth committing an hour of their week to. And for that I am grateful and humbled by the experience.
You allowed me to rant in my opening monologues and even occasionally got a look into my personal life with stories about how that week’s game related to my family. Once again, I wondered, would that even resonate with anyone. Until listeners came up to my son at the San Diego NCAA tournament pregame dinner vs TCU and knew my son Josh’s name without having to be introduced formally. Very cool!!
You also allowed Tom and I to find our way, it was clunky and awkward at first. However, it evolved into the same conversations we would have on the phone, the same conversations that inspired Tom to even push for us to start this. He will always say that he dragged me kicking and screaming through success. And for the most part he is right…because I initially thought this was a terrible idea. And not only did it allow us to have fun but it evolved our friendship to new heights. Heck I needed to talk to the guy almost everyday for the sake of the show. I think my wife was probably jealous.
I am not sure if you will hear me again on Left Coast Pirates or even at all, but I am open to new endeavors in this space, if the right opportunity presents itself and allows me to be as passionate and honest as we were on this show. It might not be Blue Tinted Glass or Sour Grapes and Gripes but if there is an opportunity to talk openly about Seton Hall Mens Basketball, I am always down to pick up the mic again.
I get the disappointment that some have already expressed. I still haven’t fully accepted that this chapter is over. I do feel that we had some unfinished business still. But for where we are at and for what we have gotten to experience, I have no regrets from that perspective.
And even though there won’t be a new episode on Sunday nights, you know we will still be watching for the Whoa Did You See That Moment, listening for Mic Flops or Drops, and waiting for Deep Thoughts with Kevin Willard (@ Maryland). In the end, I probably still won’t be able to commit to a prediction of 2 Pirate wins for the week, but you know we will always be watching and saying…
Go Pirates….Go Big Blue.

- The numbers researched
- The quotes
- The audio editing
- Hours a week on top of the responsibilities we have to our jobs and families
