Super excited for the new regime and super excited to have Holloway back home.

But unfortunately it appears that the Left Coast Pirates will be taking a step back and enjoying it purely as fans and not behind the mic. Tom broke the news earlier today on Twitter, so we will not be having one last episode to recap the season this time around. He gave his goodbye in his format/style, so now you get mine.

This has been a labor of love for us, but it is just that, a lot of labor that goes into the final product that is brought to you the listeners.

  • Hours a week on top of the responsibilities we have to our jobs and families
And we need to re-evaluate what drives us both to put in that effort on a weekly basis throughout the season. There have never been intentions to make a profit off of this endeavor, so if the podcast is not moving in the direction we both enjoy, then unfortunately we can’t bring you the best of what we both have to offer.

So for now this is a goodbye, because it could very well be the last episode we produce as the Left Coast Pirates. Who knows, maybe we have a change of heart.

However, it wouldn’t have been possible, without the loyal listeners we had. And you know who you are. We came a long way from that first hack of podcast we called episode 1 to the audience we were able to reach by episode 137. All the positive comments on rivals and twitter kept us pushing forward at times.
It was also a pleasure interviewing all the ex-ball players, collaborating with the Behind Enemy Lines reporters, plus getting insights from Bryan Felt, Tony Bozella, JP Pelzman, John Fanta, Zach Braziller, and countless others.

I love the fact since we started four years ago, many others jumped into this space in an effort to bring even more content to the Seton Hall fan base. Carino now does the Jersey Jump Shot podcast, the Front Office has done remarkable things, and Chris Paizis does a great job on Court-side Pirates. There are others that have quickly come and gone and others that say they are something else, but deep down we know they are Seton Hall alumni just trying to put their spin on things. Selfishly, I want to take credit for it, and think Left Coast Pirates inspired or pushed others to expand this forum of content.

Some have asked us what is next. At this time I am not sure what that answer is. All I know, is that I fell in love with being behind the mic and getting to share my thoughts. Not sure if I am considered a subject matter expert at this point or just someone who got you through your Monday morning commute with the occasional laugh after a tough loss. Regardless, I am flattered that on average about 500 people thought we were worth committing an hour of their week to. And for that I am grateful and humbled by the experience.

You allowed me to rant in my opening monologues and even occasionally got a look into my personal life with stories about how that week’s game related to my family. Once again, I wondered, would that even resonate with anyone. Until listeners came up to my son at the San Diego NCAA tournament pregame dinner vs TCU and knew my son Josh’s name without having to be introduced formally. Very cool!!

You also allowed Tom and I to find our way, it was clunky and awkward at first. However, it evolved into the same conversations we would have on the phone, the same conversations that inspired Tom to even push for us to start this. He will always say that he dragged me kicking and screaming through success. And for the most part he is right…because I initially thought this was a terrible idea. And not only did it allow us to have fun but it evolved our friendship to new heights. Heck I needed to talk to the guy almost everyday for the sake of the show. I think my wife was probably jealous.

I am not sure if you will hear me again on Left Coast Pirates or even at all, but I am open to new endeavors in this space, if the right opportunity presents itself and allows me to be as passionate and honest as we were on this show. It might not be Blue Tinted Glass or Sour Grapes and Gripes but if there is an opportunity to talk openly about Seton Hall Mens Basketball, I am always down to pick up the mic again.

I get the disappointment that some have already expressed. I still haven’t fully accepted that this chapter is over. I do feel that we had some unfinished business still. But for where we are at and for what we have gotten to experience, I have no regrets from that perspective.

And even though there won’t be a new episode on Sunday nights, you know we will still be watching for the Whoa Did You See That Moment, listening for Mic Flops or Drops, and waiting for Deep Thoughts with Kevin Willard (@ Maryland). In the end, I probably still won’t be able to commit to a prediction of 2 Pirate wins for the week, but you know we will always be watching and saying…

Go Pirates….Go Big Blue.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Always looked forward to having you guys as a bridge to get me through the week between games. Plus the entire summer between seasons!!!

I’ve said it before, but you guys do a better job than most professionals—well-researched, organized, and entertaining. One point of comparison: when you guys did a rewatch, you put clips on YouTube and dissected them closely with those involved; when Bill Simmons did his game rewatchables he just rambles for 75 minutes.

You will be missed. Hope you reconsider before the season—if not sooner. Id be the first to donate if you decide to set up a Patreon or something. (I know it’s not about the money, and doubt it ever could be with our small fanbase, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.)

Maybe in your heart you both want to do LeftCoast Terrapins????
Let’s be honest….Straight Talk with Shaheen wasn’t going to have the same pizazz as Deep Thoughts with Kevin Willard.

Sha is going to say the right thing as a coach more often than not and probably end up with more coach speak when all is said and done.

But Kevin on the other hand was as good a sound bite as you could hope for when they lost. I mean he would say stuff that would make you basically go Whaaaat?!?!? It was just too much fun and to easy to work with.

I mean all he had to do was maybe give us the time of day once and come on the show and we would have probably toned it down a bit. But it wasn’t meant to be, so we had our fun with it. And it was probably better that way. Those were some of our best segments when I look back.

Thanks for everything and best of luck. I will miss the show.

I was going about my morning chores yesterday thinking. I am in severe left coast pirates withdrawal right now the other podcasts just aren't cutting it. So to see this this morning guess I'm going into super withdrawal. You guys put your heart and soul into each episode. It's been a wonderful ride. Like others have said I always knew after tough losses a laugh was around the corner on Mondays. Good luck readjusting to simple fan life. You will be missed.

Loved the show and hate to see it go. Also thought it was getting better and better, a testament to you guys. LCP became a staple of my go-to podcasts no matter what I was doing. The “Summer Series” was also nice to get some SHU hoops in during the long offseason.

It certainly crates a gap in the space, but the time you guys pour in is really tough to keep up with the rest of life, kids, and so forth; totally get that.
Thanks a lot for all the great work and creating a lot of enjoyable hours for us listeners. All the best!

Very sorry that you’ve guys have pulled the plug after 4 years of great work! Your intro was thrilling to listen to and brought back memories of Warner Fusselle and his great calls. Was always hoping you would give us more of your story about how 2 local guys ended up on the left coast. You will be missed. Don’t forget you have a Covid year, if you want to come back.

You guys were always in my ears Monday mornings—win or lose. I’m gonna miss hearing you.

It especially made me feel less an isolated SHU fan because many of the little things I thought only I saw you guys would bring up on the podcast. As great as this board is, it’s nice to hear voices validate the thoughts I only thought I had.

And I’m sure the irony isn’t lost on you guys in the fact that SHU’s star seems to be on the rise right now. They could be one of the major story points of the whole off season this year.

And, of course Sha will always have the magical elite 8 run no matter how well SHU does each season he’s at the helm. So, like it or not, he will be measured each and every year because of his great run.

Such a good topic to always talk about.

will you still participate on this board?
Lol…Are you asking me to do so?

Prior to the podcast I was a long time observer of the message boards. Posting the link required me create a user ID.

Which ultimately causes you to get sucked down the occasional rabbit hole of debates. From time to time I may still be tempted to do so.

In all seriousness, without the podcast, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this board.

i thought you provided a lot of good points to the board. who knows you may be like all of us and find it hard to stay away

Bummer to lose good SHU content, but the guys at The Front Office are doing really good things. Best of luck LCP and maybe you’ll circle back again, but avid listeners should check out TFO.

Do you mind linking it? I just searched for it on Spotify and there are a bunch of podcasts named The Front Office.

Love Pat Lawless and CJ Nobile, I believe they may have a couple other collaborators as well from time to time.

You are going to get more of an Instagram Live type production with them, but you can go back and view their interviews after they happen.

We did an episode with them each of the past few summers, just to pick their brains on everything recruiting based in the tri-state area. What Pat has accomplished in this space in terms of his reputation is nothing short of remarkable.

Overall you are going to get a mix of SHU / RU / recruiting news from them. They are able to connect with the players in high school which makes them accessible for interviews once they make a local choice or a big national commitment.

Really sorry to hear the news. Appreciate the hard work, passion and dedication you guys put in.🙏 Wishing you lots of luck.

Noooooooo. This was the best hall podcast. Looked forward to it monday mornings in miserable nj winters to keep college bb and hall content going after the weekend

I would like to say thank you for all the excellent entertainment and insights. I would also be willing to be your new partner for the new podcast…Coast to Coast Pirates. From the Jersey Shore to the San Diego Shores. As a double alum and 30 year season ticket holder…I have a lot to say on this subject…just a suggestion…

DIdn't always agree, but always listened. Sorry to see it go -- I especially enjoyed the episodes with former players, with Ty Shine being the highlight. I guess we'll have to wait forever for Darius Lane.
