Let the debate begin

SHU 5 (4 of them PJ's teams)... RU 3... Princeton 2.

Who's NJ's BBall team??

That's right, SHU.

Yes, totally agree Dan. People don't remember how weak northeast hoops was back then. That is why we all remember laniers bonnie team, Erie d at pc, ru76. They were all terrific, but the exception to local hoops. That is exactly why Gavitt dreamed up the Big East. Some may wonder why our baseball team never makes the csw anymore. Same dynamic. It used to be far easier.

Just an FYI. I took down my post that Dick eventually referred to. My error. I misread the first sentence saying the top five were not in order.

The 89 team played unbelievable defense. I agree with Dan, that RU team would never have stood up to them.

Would not have even been a ballgame.

The Hall battered national powerhouses Indiana/Bobby Knight, UNLV/Tark the Shark and Duke/Coach K before losing a disputed OT game to Michigan.

RU only played regional teams to get to the FF. They beat Princeton, Connecticut (not the Big East version) and VMI before getting destroyed twice in the FF. Back then there was a consolation game.

The RU 76 team was damned good and extremely exciting. But circumstances were different back then. The limited schedule probably hurt them. They needed a miracle to beat Princeton in an early round game. I think a great ft shooter missed a shot or two to decide a game. I think I go with

SHU nit champ
89 shu
SHU 93
Bradley 's PU FF team
Ru76
Shu91
SHU 92

The 1991 team went to the Final 8 and lost to the undefeated UNLV team. That is an under appreciated team. That was the second best Seton Hall team after the 1989 team. Oliver Taylor, Dehere, Karnishivas, Jerry Walker and Avent. (NIT Champ team is ancient history) The 1993 team may have been the most talented team but they did not produce in the tournament.

Yes cern, that team was amazing, the amazing bet by ollie, beating az in the sweet 16. But I still take 93 as a better team. Certainly up for debate.
