Wow, he didn't do that at SHU. The Nova game was a forced match-up for the Gavitt Games. The only quality team other than that is against his good friend at UCLA.
I think he thought he needed to do that here most years for various reasons. Just speculation though.

And that Tournament they’re in has basically nobody. Clemson is the next best team.
Even if Cronin is his friend that was a good home and home team to schedule. The rest does seem like he took a page out of Pikell's book.
A little surprised as that schedule looks pretty weak. But Kevin didn't really schedule tough here until we were good enough that it mattered. I guess he figures, like Pike, that the Big 10 gauntlet is enough.
We've played our contractually allotted six games as part of the original Gavitt Games contract.
Butler, Georgetown, Providence, Villanova and Xavier had to play this year to get every BE school to six. I'm sure the league preferred giving Creighton, Marquette and SJU a seventh game over Seton Hall.
Davidson and UAB aren't exactly dregs. The latter won the NIT last year and ended the year with a NET of 39. Davidson was down last year but have traditionally been a solid program.
