I guess it was just a matter of time before that shoe dropped.

I liked him early on but like all of the top names in that business, they grow a bit arrogant as they age. That notwithstanding, I don't wish the guy any harm and take no delight that this has happened.

Guthrie had the pleasure of announcing it minutes after she was told about it. Nice move by the producer.

Guthrie seemed more bothered by her boyfriend getting canned than anything. She caught herself and threw in a gratuitous shout out to the victim(s).

I wonder what the over and under is on whether Ellen will sing his high praise as long as he "apologizes".

Another dirt bag....as the father of three daughters pursuing their careers, happy these guys are being outed. Maybe I should have pursued a career in broadcasting...lots of open positions:)

No shock on this I was told to watch out for this a few weeks ago. Long rumored that he had relationships with female staff along the way. That show makes money for Comcast and he was the face man so props to the leadership for doing what they did. He was making north of 25 mil a year

Okay, who should we be watching out for now?

My money is on Kermit.

I have always believe he was banging Miss Piggy without her consent.

Maybe she will have the courage to come forward.

It would not shock me if he was also doing Camilla.

In hindsight, there were few females in that cast. I suspect they felt alone and powerless.

Bill O'Reilly, Charlie Rose and now Matt Lauer. What's next? A photo of Anderson Cooper with a pair of balls smacking him in the forehead?

If I had to guess, I would go with someone you wouldn't expect, maybe Garrison Keilor or someone like that.

Makes it like he’s above the fray whenever convenient, but Hall85 once again shows his ugly true colors. Classy. If you ever wonder why I don’t bother engaging you in actual discourse (doubtful), there’s the newest reason.

Yeah, that was uncalled for (especially given the topic).

Lighten up Francis.

Keillor was in fact my second choice. I just didn't say it. Lol

Money and power is an intoxicant. Some handle the intoxication with being jovial, gregarious and charitable. Others, get drunk with power and abuse. Matt Laurer surprised me. He is not the ugly troll of a man who needed this to attract women. However, there is just something about money and power that corrupts a person’s sensibilities.

Is it the money and the power that corrupts people? Or do these people lack the proper values to begin with and because they have money it allows their lack of values to show more?

It is likely a combination of both.

I think blaming money is the easy way out. There are plenty of people without money who do bad and there are plenty of people with money that do the right thing. Overall we have culture that is seriously lacking morals. Someone brought up Bill Gates in another thread. Maybe (hopefully) the reason we don't hear about Bill Gates is because he has the morals to resist the temptations the money brings along with it.

I think it's more DNA than $$$. Bill Gates is a good example; Warren Buffet too. Unfortunately the greedy folks get the press, but I've also seen some in the community I work give back a lot without any fanfare.

I disagree. The core of a person can be formed on morality or what I call respect for others. This is usually formed by our parents and upbringing. However, money has the ability to transform people who were humble and sensible to looking at people as commodities and judging others by the size of their wallet. This can be seen on Wall St where people who were good people just transformed into money crazed superfical jerks. Steve Mnuchin's wife

The is an old saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I happen to agree with this. Power and money can transform someone who was previously moral and had respect for others.

When you talk about morals, are you talking about just the sexual morals of Bill Gates? What about the business morals of Bill Gates which are considerably shakier? And while a person can transform from good to bad, can't it also happen that a previously bad person turn good? Things must be addressed in context and not take a broad brush to paint everyone the same. We need to carefully consider all facts.

I agree to disagree. If those core values are truly core values, money and power won't get the best of you. However if their values that can take a backseat to money, thats where problems occur. And you don't need to make millions for that to be a problem. Someone willing to compromise those morals for an extra $10,000 a year is just as bad.

We have primal instincts. Intellect, values, reason, etc provide the ability to not act on those instincts. That is what separates man from other species.

Rumors now that Bill Maher is next?
I don't wish any of this on anyone... but Bill Maher going down would make me smile. There are very few people I genuinely dislike but he may be at the top of the list.

Strange that of all the people, it is Bill Maher, a comedian, that you genuinely dislike. Is it because he doesn’t follow your type of politics or is funny or likes to point out the hypocrisy of the right quite frequently?
It is interesting that you point out Bill Maher. Maher has some interesting views like his stance on free speech which he bashes the far left’s actions, I.e. protesting and censoring what comics can do at colleges, or the far left’s protesting against right wing speakers such as Ann Coulter and Yiannopolis, he actually invites those same people on the show to discuss topics to the ire to those on the far left.

Don’t know what rumors that another poster is alluding to, however, we need people like Maher who can speak against the right and speak out against the far left in a cleaver and entertaining manner. In the end, he is a comedian that will say at times provocative things that may offend people. But that’s what comedians do. Which brings me to that I Would have loved to hear George Carlin’s take on Trump.

You are consistently judgmental and wrong again.

I haven't watched Bill Maher in years. The last time I watched he had on folks that all had the same politics so to speak and they just ganged up on the other side. It was not a stimulating argument in any way, it did not present both sides and I don't find him funny at all. I have watched a whole bunch of current comedians that are far left. And if they are funny, they are funny and I watch them again. Colbert is hysterical. Jimmy Fallon is great. Kimmel is less funny to me but sometimes he is funny. Sometimes I agree with their politics and sometimes I don't, but they are really funny so I watch them again and again and I don't care where they stand politically. Maher is not funny and never will be. He's not even a little funny. He's an ahole IMO.

What turned me off about Maher happened years ago. He lied to a priest to get access to a church so he could film a hit piece on the Catholic church. He then bragged about it too. Now I believe the Catholic church has a lot of ongoing problems and have said so many times but I also believe the basics of the religion (commandments and how you should treat people) are good. But he basically lied to this priest so he could get access to the church to film his hit piece and that is what he does. He will go to any lengths to get his point across and I don't and never will respect that. And he's not funny in any way to me and he never will be. He's just another whiner on tv one that I find difficult to watch. That is why I cannot stand him and never watch him.

If we need people like him we are in a lot of trouble.

The one area I agree with you is on George Carlin's take. I saw him live once and he was funny and had a way of undressing the current politicians like noone else could. His take would be truthful and funny. Bill Maher couldn't carry George Carlin's shoes.

My favorite Carlin comment is his view that voters don't have a clue what they would get if they elected honest politicians. If we ever put honesty into politics the entire system would collapse.

Fair enough you don't think he is funny. Curious, what was the lie that he told to a priest?

It was a while ago but I believe he told him he was doing a positive story on the church. Happened in north jersey I believe. Then he demanded that the pastor could not be there during shooting the piece. It was a total lie so he could get the backdrop he wanted. Just not nice.

Mounting pressure from Dems for Franken to resign given another women coming forward. Franken crossed the line, but to me, what Conyers did was much worse. I guess the retirement plan is a way for everyone to get their way without spending any political capital.

Franken was not a Senator when the stuff occured I believe so it's not a good situation but I could see him staying because of that. Conyers situation is not good and now over. Moore situation is completely ridiculous and Trump is an ass for backing him.

What is worse was the fact that there is some sort of fund in Congress to pay for sexual misconduct funded by our tax dollars? If we ever knew what kind of country club our legislators have had all these years.... UGH!

I think Franken has agreed to step aside which is why there at 30+ dems calling on him to resign today.

Sadly I do believe it is more of a political stunt to be honest.

I agree that this slush fund is the most disturbing thing. And the fact that the public was unaware of it until now? So the self-police themselves and pay off victims with our money… Seems fair.

All of these situations have different circumstances. You raise the question of Does it matter if it happened while they are in office or before they were in public service? If you use your Franken litmus test, anything Trump did before he was elected shouldn't be considered as well. My gut says Franken shouldn't have to step down but Conyers should resign immediately (none of this retirement BS).

The stuff Moore is accused was 40 years ago. He totally gives me the creeps and the thing that actually bothers me most is that he was banned from a mall when he was a DA. WTF! But I am a bit skeptical though that this wave of information feels October-surprise like.

I was unaware that there was a statute of limitations on pedophilia.

Seriously, has anything been more than accusations? Who wouldn't be surprised if he was, but there is no evidence and he's denied it.

Why would these women lie about it as they have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Read the Washington Post story. The details of it cannot be made up.
