McCarrick has passed age 94

SMH. The trauma that "institution" has inflicted on people over the course of time is mind numbing to consider.

OK, back to basketball.

The ramifications continue to this day. Incoming McElroy, installed in March as the archbishop of Washington, has been criticized by mostly conservative detractors for allegedly not responding to a whistleblower letter regarding McCarrick when McElroy was bishop of San Diego. An NCR review of the facts and documents available regarding the episode show that McElroy appears to have taken every reasonable step to pursue the unsubstantiated allegations.

In February, Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark, New Jersey launched an investigation into whether the president of Seton Hall University, Msgr. Joseph Reilly, failed in his responsibilities regarding McCarrick.

Reilly, named president of Seton Hall a year ago, allegedly knew of sexual abuse allegations that he did not report, Politico reported last year. The Politico report prompted Tobin to hire an outside law firm to investigate whether Reilly “acted inappropriately.”

There should be no barriers left for any member of the clergy in the archdiocese to continue to stonewall any investigation and the hierarchy in the church must take all steps necessary to make whatever Changes are necessary. .

What I find interesting and disturbing is that McCarick was a favorite of John Paul, an absolute conservative pope who elevated him to Cardinal. And he was very close to Francis probably the most liberal Pope in modern times. They both seemingly ignored the rumors.

McCarrick played him. St. John Paul II had an innocent mind. He thought negative reports were slanderous, akin to the terrible things spoken of and done to saints like Padre Pio. Also, reports that came to John Paul were hearsay that point. Benedict eventually put McCarrick under penal sanction, e.g., a lifelong penitential retreat. The real villain was McCarrick's soul brother and fellow disciple of the evil Cardinal Martini, Jorge Bergoglio, who as Pope Francis knew with moral certitude that Uncle Ted had abused children but nevertheless rehabilitated him and made him a king-maker.
