MILWAUKEE, WIS. – Seton Hall's Mike Alescio (Fair Haven, N.J) has signed a professional baseball contract as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Alescio becomes the record seventh member of the 2018 Pirates to either sign a free agent contract or be selected in the 2018 MLB First-Year Draft joining former teammates Billy Layne, Jr., Andrew Politi, Shane McCarthy, Ryan Ramiz, Cullen Dana and Matt Leon. Alescio is the first Pirate to sign with the Brewers since Greg Miller in 2008.

Named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team as a senior, Alescio established himself as one of the elite catchers in the nation. A two-time member of the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, he ranked fourth on the Pirates with a .302 batting average to go with three home runs and 24 RBIs. A versatile defensive talent, who has also seen time in right field, Alescio ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in both chances and putouts in 2918. Batting in the middle of the Pirate order, he also tied for sixth in the BIG EAST with 13 stolen bases.

Elevating his game when the Pirates needed him most, Alescio led Seton Hall with a .409 batting average during the 2018 BIG EAST Championship and was named to the All-Tournament Team. In game one vs. St. John's on Championship Sunday, he went 4-for-5 with a double.

A consistent and durable performer for the Pirates throughout his career in South Orange, Alescio never batted below .298 during his three years as a regular starter. Despite playing in a physically taxing position at catcher, he averaged more than 48 games played per year since his sophomore season. A career .302 batter, he collected exactly 150 hits with four home runs, 71 RBIs and 37 stolen bases in his remarkable career.

A three-time Academic All-Star, Alescio received Seton Hall's Academic Merit Award for graduating with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average. Last month, he was named Seton Hall's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
