Illegal (and legal) immigrants can be and are deported for committing these sorts of crimes already! This was all about heightening the contradictions, I guess.

Nice of Newsweek to include this throwaway line, though: "Studies have generally found no link between immigration and violent crime."

So this bill appears to be unnecessary at best and racist/xenophobic at worst. One might even call this a "political charade."

You gotta expect this sort of attention-seeking behavior from bill sponsor Nancy Mace.
