Wow, a university going public announcing a contract extension....something that's not in the SHU/Lyons playbook.

Why is Marquette in a rush to give him an extension now? Yes he looks like an up and coming coach but hasn't proven anything record wise. Just don't understand what the rush is.

For the recruiting cycle. The current classes he's recruiting are class of 2020 and beyond. The original deal ran through 2019.

Wonder if he's a Miller or Pabst guy. Think Pabst is returning to Milwaukee.

I agree but under Gabe and this BOR SH is doing so much better financially, it's academic reputation is improving and it's taking significant steps to get even better beginning with the proposed new Medical School and Gabe, the BOR and Gabe's key staff members should be recognized for the progress that has been made. You would see even more important changes if SH was not handicapped by space limitations.

Gabe and Co. have us soaring. A few months ago he said that he's like to be a top 5 Catholic University in 5 years- leapfrogging his original goal of top 10.

Here are his top 5 -not necessarily in this order. 4 of these are Jseuit- Fordham is a surprise to me but I guess their reputation has held up.

Notre Dame
Boston College
Georgetown
Marquette
Fordham

This would be pretty damn good company and with all that's going on in South Orange we will get there.

Well said and completely agree. The strides the university has taken in a relatively short period of time points to how sharp and motivated Esteban and this particular BOR are proving to be.

Do 2020 recruits actually know when Wojo's contract runs through? I find that hard to believe but maybe it's possible. Don't you need to see how the team is progressing after 3, I would say 4 years to warrant an extension? Doesn't make financial sense to me to extend now without knowing if he can win or not.
