Jim in the ticket office just sent this to me to post

I wanted you to be aware of an email we sent out to season ticket holders today (looks similar to the email below). As you know, we are transitioning to mobile tickets this year. The email contains instructions for how to access their tickets via their smart phone. It’s very simple to navigate but we also know the process can be a little overwhelming to anyone who isn’t tech savvy so we created a page with even more detailed instructions as well as a tutorial video:

https://setonhalltix.com/sports/2021/9/3/mobile-ticketing-instructions.aspx

If anyone has any questions at all, feel free to have them reach out to me directly via this email or they can contact the Ticket Office at tickets@shu.edu

I'm a Jets season ticket holder as well as a Seton Hall Season ticket holder. The Jets already use mobile tickets to get into the stadium. I hate it. I don't want to have to figure out how to properly use the cell phone to get into games. I am not tech savy nor do I want to be forced to learn how to be. I'm perfectly happy using paper tickets. As someone else suggested maybe the way to avoid this is just stay home and watch on TV.

Looking forward to those groups of 6 people in front of me at the door, with the leader fumbling to turn on their phone and load their tickets, then scrolling through their phone so the usher can scan each ticket, then scrolling past a ticket and wondering why they are short one, then trying to figure out which one they didn't scan.

Good times.

How about they just extort me for extra money and allow me to buy paper tickets? I know, paperless ticketing will save lives, save trees, allow the wheels of progress to turn, etc. I get it.

Replaced with “will this work on my iPhone 5s?”…

or worse “my AOL account is hooked up to my blackberry, does that support mobile tickets?”
honestly you might get a bunch of people who have flip phones.

an actual problem is that cell data usually crashes when tons of people are in one area. and some people have trouble loading their apps.

As such, attention to all: TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR TICKETS BEFORE THE GAME.

this will eliminate any stress come gametime

The app says screenshots will not work. Bc there is a small moving blue line that goes back and forth on the bar code. So if you screenshot it there will be a missing area of the bar code. I checked it today.

Yea better move is to add it to ur wallet.

one annoying thing about virtual season tickets is that they are only linked to a single account/profile. So if my wife and I go to the game separately I have to manually send her ticket to her profile and she has to manually accept it. There’s not an option for someone with multiple season tickets to divide those amongst multiple shu pirate app profiles.

I have 3 season tickets and it’s not uncommon for us all to go to game in 3 separate cars (everyone coming from work).

I'm somewhat in the same boat. I have a pair and I don't have a set person who uses my second ticket. Two of my three regulars prefer me emailing their ticket which is fine. The third has steadfastly held out preferring to meet at the box office before the game. I hope I can convert him this year.

ive never seen that. i had tix package for mlb (using the mlb app i think powered by ticket master) and also nhl and ive never seen that.

its still a backup measure, and maybe it will still scan. thats awful they did that because theres absolutelt going to be entry issues with apps not working. i can just see the devils side entrance now... will be a zoo on steroids

Email says that won’t work. Just load to your wallet ahead of time and you’ll be fine.

Absolutely load the tickets to your wallet. Once you do that, the only way you’re “losing your ticket” is by a broken phone. It’s a relatively simple process.

Now I will say, I had an issue at the Rock last year on senior night with my mobile tickets but it wasn’t on me. The lady attempting to scan my tickets couldn’t figure it out for the life of her so she had to wait for her manager to show her how do it. Chalk it up to first (and only) game jitters last year. I’m sure it will all go smoothly once everyone gets into their own rhythms.

Hey, Willard didn’t only schedule a soft opponent to open up the season this year for his team, but for the fans as well!

they always say screenshots wont work, however judging by the one description they might have finally implemented a way to kill the screenshot.

im still curious about it tho.

Screenshots do not work, you should move to Apple/Google wallet. This way if no internet you have tickets available.

Yep, I am in the same boat, one of my tickets goes to a friend who comes to Newark from different direction, wish could have sent him whole season in one shot, unfortunately have to send him each game seperately. Just did first few so far.

was trying to make it easier for the old people lol. but sounds like ticketmaster is starting to crack down on the most in demand events like seton hall basketball LOL

I've never had screenshots of mobile tickets not work, whether at games or on NJTransit (although to be fair, the ones on the train aren't typically scanned, just looked at by the conductor).

oh wow. i do screenshots for every sport game (makes it so easy to send them to someone) i thought NJTran would enforce it tho. they were the original moving ticket with the colors at the bottom. i figured condoctors are more strict.

My tickets are split between different Hall alums and this year I will only be attending some games and not others so sending my tix to other Hall folks all the time. I liked the old system because I could send an electronic copy to whoever I had using my tix. Hopefully that functionality still works with this system. I am now anxious to jump in there to see how it all works.

Does this come down to cutting out the printing expense and nothing else? After all, the person at the arena still has to scan a bar code whether it's on a regular ticket or on a mobile device.

printing, but also data, customer engagement, growth etc.

Looking at the “How to” video on the shupirates site, I gotta say this was an absolutely horrible decision. Like it or not, they have to consider the age of the ticket base. Not that the older ticket holders are incompetent, but how many don’t even use their wallet or even download apps? It’s an important consideration that they ignored. At a time when you want people to show up, is it really a wise move to make them think “Why bother?” It’s one thing for a pro ticket market where your ticket holders are all ages, but it’s a different situation when the base skews older like it does here. I thought better of the Hall people in that they would hold off in implementing this plan. The excuse teams/arenas have is that it is “becoming industry standard” … but it’s not standard yet.

customer experience 101. who is your customer? i guess that wasnt considered.

I say printing is better for the environment, in any event. If paper not being used they’ll pave the forest and put up the proverbial parking lot!

I would imagine there is significant cost savings around mail too. Thousands of season ticks would get sent fedex.

In my experience, they are not. They can probably see that the colors at the bottom are not moving, but they are also timestamped so maybe that's good enough?

The screenshot will scan, but it will be very obvious to the person scanning that it's a screenshot and they're supposed to deny it. The purpose to combat counterfeits. It's way too easy to screenshot a ticket and then sell that screenshot as a ticket to as many people as you want.

A big reason for teams switching to mobile is to combat the incredible ease of counterfeiting / duplicating print at home tickets. Allowing screenshots would completely defeat that.

wel ive been to hundreds of games using screenshots across all stypes of sports, leagues, venues, states, etc and not one has ever batted an eye for the screenshot.

again its a backup, and you have the ticket. its a failsafe from disaster at the entrance

Assuming Seton Hall is using the same tech as the Devils, screen shots will NOT scan.

they would scan in 2019-20, even though it was messaged that they wouldn’t. The difference between then and now is the moving barcode.

jets have been doing it since 2019. It’s not hard. It’s also very easy to text your tickets to transfer.

couldn't agree more. and is not as easy as they show it. you basically have to set up a third password...even if you have a SHU Pirates password and a Ticketmaster password...this site is looking for a third, discreet password.

No where is that explained...nor does that make any sense.

But the ticket office was helpful in walking me thru the totally nonsensical process of clicking "forgot my password"...when of course....I KNOW my passwords...not realizing the site just wants a new one....lol.

then setting up the password...and thankfully having the person on the phone who confirmed that "no" this doesn't replace or change either of your existing passwords...which, again, who would think that given the process....then finally....am in.

But....this will drive folks crazy...and STRONGLY recommend doing it well before the first game

i HATE when sites make u make a completely new password by hitting "forgot my password"

i didnt forget it, i need to make a new one.

awful product development.

That's because the anti-screenshot stuff is fairly new and not everyone even uses it. They used to tell you no screenshots without actually being able to do anything about it - or even tell the difference without touching your phone. That's changed now, for the teams/venues that choose to combat it.

Although this isn't a Seton Hall athletics issue, I also don't understand the "cashless facility" thing now going on at the Rock. Imagine not accepting cold, hard cash?! It's nuts.
same with wells fargo. even parking doesnt accept cash. they have reverse atms!

It is looking for your SHU ticket manager email and password, would be the password you use to pay your ticket invoice or transfer/reprint your tickets from in prior years.

The cashless trend is mostly intended for data collection with the public facing benefit of speeding up concession lines by removing the need for cashiers to count change. Of course, that second part is only relevant if the cash transaction is the bottleneck - getting the food out takes longer often enough. This is one that a lot of venues were hesitent to adopt but COVID changed that. It added the reasoning that it removes a point of contact between customer and cashier. Realistically, I think it's just an excuse to do something they already wanted to do but avoided for fear of pushback.

Covid is being used an excuse for a lot of things.

The only lines I’ve ever really seen at SHU games were at the Carvel stand at CAA.

I’ve always found the prices way too high in Newark to warrant any lines. Goes for the Devils as well.
