2 officers couldnt handle one man under the influence...they should have tried better tactics before he escaped. Fine use the gun to disable him shoot him in the leg but of course they are trained when threatened to shoot at chest

It’s easy to say that two officers couldn’t handle one man, but from a police officer’s perspective suspects that are under the influence are extremely difficult to detain. I am 6’ 2” 220 and I have been on scene where one suspect maybe 5’5” 150 (if that) is unable to be detained and wound up injuring several officers before being placed in the transport.

I’m not sure if this was in just, but shooting a suspect in the leg in a lethal situation is dangerous and will get a lot of officers killed. Every serious use of force is examined from every angle and it is always easy to second guess actions. In a split second you will do what you have to do to preserve your life and others.

My main concern in this situation is the lack of weapon retention.
