One thing we can always count on is this Board trashing everyone when things don’t go well. Its been a very rough season but remember Sha is trying to get how many new faces to come together? It’s not an easy task but as long as they buy into Sha’s program it will be ok.

This is one of the more athletic groups we have had in a while. Yea they can’t shoot straight at the moment, but things will get better.

We always seem to turn the tables somewhere around Christmas, when league play begins. I am the ultimate optimist and believe this year will be no different, albeit a little tougher with the huge turnaround in roster.

Keep the faith.

Go Pirates!

They deserve to be trashed. From the top down, they are an embarrassment. Coleman said out loud that they didn’t practice hard? My question is— why not? And why the hell would you say that?? Lots of teams have lots of new guys. If it takes half a season to get them to learn how to play basketball, then the system is broken. Looking at you, coach.

We’ve lost to Fordham, Hofstra, and a winless Monmouth team - who lost to Presbyterian by double-digits in their last game - drilled us by 12 on our home floor. We already have 2 Q4 losses.

We are a month in. 8 games. A quarter of the season. The Hall is 359th in tempo, 342nd in offensive turnover %, 358th in 2PT%, 356th in FT%. It’s a terrible watch, there’s nothing compelling. The results are worse. We’re lucky to be 4-4 thanks to hot 3PT shooting in SC. We’re watching basically the worst offensive basketball in the country.

Sometimes bad is bad. It’s bad.

Keeping the faith. Remember the early Big East days. Petitions to fire PJ and rumors the Big East was going to boot the Hall.
Several years later almost national champs.
Hope for the best... didn't get much worse then those days...

Free throw percentage says it all. That’s not an accident. We are terrible. Anyone who solely blames the players and doesn’t blame the coach is delusional. He put this roster together and chooses to play this style of “basketball”, NIL be damned. But at least we’re the 5th best scoring defense in the country!

The people on this site are diehards, supporters, they contribute time and money. They’re not going anywhere despite deserving better and having a right to complain when they’re funding the roster.

But clearly something is very wrong with how this team was put together and coached. Teams struggle, need time, sure, but this?? It’s ok to hold the coach accountable while knowing there’s a lot of ball to still be played.

They don't deserve to be trashed at all. The fair weather posters on this forum deserve to be trashed. We all knew this was a rebuild year and there were going to be hiccups. Anyone thinking otherwise and unhappy with the results has rose color glasses on. Basketball is above all else a TEAM sport. You have 10-15 kids who never played together, and you expect a winning season? Get real!

The roster construction has some glaring flaws. Some of our aquisitions are not D1 college players. Very athletic perhaps but not D1 college players.

Another big problem seems to be Sha's apparent refusal to focus enough on offense. If you can't put the ball in the hoop, then no matter how hard you play in practice, you should not see the court come game time.

Bahaha really with this? This was never supposed to be a rebuilding year. There are no such thing as rebuilding years anymore. We had some very knowledgeable posters here claiming we were super deep and athletic and that we would be in the middle of the pack.

Look at what coach brought in here. Rather than retain Kadary or Dre, he wanted to spread the love. We lost to Monmouth. Inexcusable. Get real!

This is where you messed up.

1. Listening to so called knowledgeable posters who have obvious bias.
2. Expecting a super deep athletic group who NEVER played together to translate into a team that can win many games. If you ever watched or played basketball you surely know above all else it is a TEAM game on both defense and offense!

Excuse me for expecting to beat bad teams. Excuse me for expecting to beat bad teams last year. Give Sha another pass. What will the excuse be next year? What was the excuse last year?

I'm sorry but I'm usually a positive SHU guy on here but this year is a disgrace and I will call out the failure of the athletic department and this team overall. I will not ignore it on a SHU message board. Will I renew my season tickets of course, I'm a fan but I'm not in denial of what is happening this year.

They stink

I believe we need to reset and establish a new set of goals for this season. The energy is negative right now and that's understandable. The play in all honesty has been terrible except for the defense in several games. The sad part is that we are only a couple of days into December and even participating in the NIT looks to be in the rear view mirror. That may or may not be true?

Personally, i agree that Sha could have the team playing better as the season moves along. Thats been his trademark as a coach. It may also be a DePaul/Gtown year. Most important that can not become the Norm. So, the sense of urgency is already there as far as planning future program strategy.

None of the following are really mutually exclusive:

1. Sha did a good job his first two years and is a good coach.
2. It takes time for a brand-new team to come together and fulfill its potential.
3. Expectations should be kept realistic for this season.
4. Lack of NIL is still holding the program back.
5. Sha did a really good job getting this team to play together on defense.
6. Sha did a really poor job on getting this team installing any kind of offensive system.
7. The program and this team specifically should not lose to Hofstra, Fordham, or Monmouth this or any year.
8. The program and this team specifically should never be <100 in the Net.
9. The program and this team specifically should not be at the bottom of Kenpom's offensive efficiency ratings.
10. Fans have a right to expect a whole lot more from a high-major program than what they have received this year and have a right to question the direction of the program.

Unacceptable performance to date irregardless if you are a die hard, fair weather fan, a casual fan or otherwise. (If you are on this message board, you are a die hard fyi)

I don’t like the talk that Sha walks on water, is tied up by low NIL resources, shouldn’t listen to others or change how he runs his team. The Monmouth coach is dead wrong there, Sha needs to do better.

I also don’t like the talk that Sha is on the hot seat. He had them working hard (but not smart), defense is mostly good. We also have two ok wins.

Unfortunately, the goal every season is to make the tourney and unless a miracle happens, that ain’t this year. It doesn’t matter how well we do in big east conf, last year proved that. Plus big east might be more down this year…

Sha is our guy but he needs to improve and learn. These OOC games are way more important here than at St. Peter’s, where you just need to win the conf tourney.

I don’t think Sha gets that.

Team game hope is difficult when your players can’t shoot. When you are in college and you are CYO shooters you are in for a long awful season with your main realistic objective is to finish next to last in conference and even that may be a pipe dream.

Every team looks like this. I guess hittimg 50% free throws is due to chemistry and new guys too?

1. We do not have a PG
2. We do not have a PF
3. We have 0 shooters besides Jenkins, Coleman (kind of) and DAW (less than kind of). The rest look so uncomfortable and pray to hit the rim most times
4. Our inept offense causes issues for our defense
5. Our defense, specifically our on the ball defense at the top of the key, was horrific against Monmouth. They repeatedly broke us down off the dribble leading to wide open shooters. Monmouth moved the ball very well to find the open player.
6. FTs...I have to assume this gets better

You cannot fix this in the middle of the season. We are a flawed team missing important pieces. You can't just develop those. This will be the longest season in my time as a Seton Hall fan. Buckle up. No this is not an overreaction.

You’re trolling right?
No I'm not trolling and you so called fair weather fans need a dose of reality! It's a game. So just because you guys think Monmouth is terrible and they have no one on their team that is any good we should never lose to them. That is simply stupid talk and hoops ignorance.
Every kid who plays the game whether 1 star or 5 stars is capable of playing well or poorly on any given night. Otherwise UConn would not have lost a game yet this year.

Sha should NOT be evaluated now. At the end of the season when the whole body of work by him and the players is finished is plenty of time for you guys to bitch and moan or hopefully offer some more reasoned judgement.

Easy to fix. The best free throw shooters start and get the most minutes. If the offense is designed for driving to the basket and getting fouled then those are the kids that should be on the floor. Easy to look at their free throw history to see who that should be. The message to the guys who are not starting would be to demonstrate in practice you can make FTs.

All that’s true. But notwithstanding, right now we simply stink. There’s no getting around it.

While I admire your steadfast optimism, the reality is we just got our lunch taken from us, on our own home court, by an 0-8 Monmouth team. There is no denying it.

I mean, they beat us. The result wasn’t some kind of mistake. They were the better team. Let that sink in. Add to that the previous losses to Fordham and Hofstra, and there is no sugarcoating it: This is a program in crisis. We haven’t even started Big East play yet. Just imagine how brutal it’s gonna get. Forget about not being ready for prime time, this team isn’t ready for lunch. There may have been a certain amount and hype and hopefulness surrounding this team, but that’s done now. Reality should have set in for everyone by now.

We get that it’s Sha’s great trademark to get his teams to play better as the season progresses. We get that we are saddled with NIL and transfer portal woes. People can argue about where exactly Seton Hall belongs in today’s college basketball hierarchy, but what cannot be argued is that we should not be losing to Monmouth, Hofstra and Fordham in the same season. We are supposed to be better than that. We expect to better than that.

Now, we may win some games we have no business winning in conference play, but none of that changes that season is already awash. This isn’t last year, where we rebounded after a very, very disappointing start to the season. In case anyone didn’t notice, we don’t have the three very talented players who carried us to above .500 in conference play and an NIT Championship. We have nothing like that now. Great defense can of course turn into a good offense, but there needs to be the skill and talent to make that happen - to take advantage of the opportunities a great defense can create. This team doesn’t have it, and a tough Big East schedule is not gonna change this.

Start making changes. Start planning for next season. Start mapping out the future. There will be a nice surprise or two this season, but we shouldn’t accept this as the norm.

Are we going to be saying this all season? Watched the UCONN v. Memphis game from Maui last week. Memphis has about the same number of newcomers as we do.

When we played Monmouth not a single kid who started for us last year was on the court. Now when Memphis played UConn how many kids started for them that started the year before? Are you making like comparisons?

Good point, and I'm not sure. But if the problem is that our incomings did not start last year, is the issue their melding together or that we brought in ______________ players?

That why the administration should never take the trend here as an avenue to follow.

The here's the rub. The season is over unless we win the BET. Game, set, match.

Nbnylon,

Love your positive attitude! It’s inspiring!

The problem with turning the tables at Christmas though is that you’ve lost two full months. If the system we employ is such that it takes two months for the players to acclimate, it needs to be tweaked.

I’m optimistic (maybe even confident) that this team will improve a lot. But the fact of the matter remains that with 3 atrocious losses on our resume already and the current state of the Big East as a whole, we’re pretty much playing for pride only at this point. And that’s a lame place to be in December.
