Former Trenton Catholic star Myles Powell made his decision to attend Seton Hall recently. NJ Hoops caught up with Powell to talk about his decision.

NJ Hoops: Why did you decide on Seton Hall?

MP: The relationship I had with the staff especially Coach Shah [Holloway]. They were the first school to offer. And I have a chance to contribute right away.

NJ Hoops: How do you like the coaches there?

MP: Coach Willard and I have a great relationship. Everything I heard about him from everyone was positive.

NJ Hoops: Was there one coach recruiting you more than the others? Or was it a group effort?

MP: It was the whole staff.

NJ Hoops: When did they start recruiting you?

MP: They offered me my sophomore year.

NJ Hoops: What did they say your role would be?

MP: Come in and score. They know I can do that.

NJ Hoops: What did you do on the visit?

MP: I chilled with the guys, Isaiah Whitehead, Desi Rodriguez. I knew them from the Playaz where they played for a while. We hung out. I went out to eat and watched a workout.

NJ Hoops: How was the campus?

MP: It's nice. It's small but a great environment.

NJ Hoops: Was the location a factor?

MP: A big factor. My family can come watch me play.

NJ Hoops: Was the school's academic reputation a factor?

MP: It was big.

NJ Hoops: What were the other schools that you were considering?

MP: VCU, Depaul, Georgetown, St. Joes, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, UConn.

NJ Hoops: What other schools offered scholarships?

MP: I had about 27-30 offers.

NJ Hoops: What school was the first to reach out to you and what school was the first to offer?

MP: Seton Hall

NJ Hoops: Who is the best player you ever played with and against?

MP: Isaiah Briscoe

NJ Hoops: There must have been some people along the way that helped you out in getting you the scholarship. Are there any people you want to thank?

MP: My family. My best friend Marquise Bell. Jimmy Salmon and the Playaz organization.

NJ Hoops: You have had a great career in high school, camps, and AAU, are there any highlights that stand out?

MP: This summer I showed real improvement. I showed what I could do. At the Nike Global Games I averaged 23.8 ppg and was the leading scorer. At the Peach Jam I was one of top 10 scorers. I was a late addition to the NBA Top 100 Camp and proved I belonged.

NJ Hoops: How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

MP: 6-foot-2, 205 lbs.

NJ Hoops: What would you say are your strengths and what would you say you had to continue to improve on?

MP: Everyone knows I can shoot the ball. I can improve my defense and conditioning.

NJ Hoops: Thanks and best wishes. It's good to see all the hard work pay off.
