NCAA presents tournament plans for 72, 76 teams

Exactly. They’re betting no one wants to see Utah State against Michigan. Even if Utah state deserves to be there.

Squeeze the little guy out and just take money from the bigger fan bases’ eyeballs on games.

It’s what has me concerned about the NCAa tourney in the coming years.
Ironic that three months ago we were screaming that Utah State was included at least partially at our expense.

Yet in the world of college sports, the MWC schools are the "little guys" as opposed to the Big East schools.

Not true, the ratings of the worst bowl games outdraw 95% of college basketball games. https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college-football-tv-ratings/

1.4mm watched the NIT Championship game. The meaningless RU-Miami Bowl had 3.0mm viewers.
I am not comparing Bowl games to regular season college basketball games, but rather "apples to apples", that being comparing them to NCAA tournament games.

And there is no comparison....

1). 30+ games is a little different than 12 games in a season

2). When your conference like the MWC gets 6 (!!!) teams in as a lower rated conference(6th? 7th) and the higher (second in nation per metrics) gets 3 teams in they aren’t being seen as a little guy.

Good try though.

Also per the metrics, six Mountain West teams were in the NET top 40 while only four Big East teams were. The Big East is still considered a Power Six (now five) basketball conference and the MWC is in the next tier

Conference ranking doesn't mean a damn thing. A team is rated by what they do over 30+ plus games. If the Selection Committee had five MWC in its top 42 (the number of at-large bids) and Seton Hall was ranked No. 44 that's all that matters.

That’s not the point. You’re arguing with yourself over who deserved to get into the tournament.

My point is in the NCAA basketball tournament, there are many teams that get chances to go deep.

The NCAA football “playoff” would require the MWC to minimally go undefeated and then consider them as possibilities.

And there’s even a good chance they still don’t make it.

Excuse my rehashing...The NET are the ratings system that is used. But that does not mean that they are always a good barometer. 67 plays 28 for the NIT title at a virtual home court for the team obviously superior based on the ratings and they lose. And no one thinks its an upset. (Because it was not an upset.)

Maybe NET is a crappy system. Maybe algorithms you can use to optimize your scheduling are a shitty way to run sports. We were 7 in NET in the BE. (One point ahead of Butler lol) No one in their right mind thinks were were seventh best BE team. I dont give a crap about the OOC. We were not 7th best, that is universal common sense.

Or how about this since you’re a stats/numbers/metrics guy:

The MWC got 5 at large bids. That’s roughly 14% of total at large, arbitrary selections.

Do you think the NCAA football playoff would allow 2 MWC teams (~16%) to make their 12 team playoff format?

Wouldn’t happen.
