Nets shut down Kyrie

Time to cut ties with him. He is a pain in the neck where ever he goes.

Nets ban Kyrie Irving from team until he’s vaccinated

By Jeremy Layton

In the wake of Nets star Kyrie Irving’s apparent refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the 29-year-old will not play until he does, the team announced in a surprise statement Tuesday morning.

Exactly one week before the Nets kick off their regular season against the Bucks, the team announced Irving will not practice or play — even during away games, where he is allowed to participate.

“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” the statement read. “Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently, the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.

“It is imperative that we continue to build chemistry as a team and remain true to our long-established values of togetherness and sacrifice. Our championship goals for the season have not changed, and to achieve these goals each member of our organization must pull in the same direction. We are excited for the start of the season and look forward to a successful campaign that will make the borough of Brooklyn proud.”

Due to local restrictions in New York, every Nets and Knicks player must be vaccinated to practice or play home games. Irving is the only member of the Nets who is not vaccinated.

Don't for a moment think despite what Durant says in public that he isn't upset with Irving. And upset big time.

He came to play with him but really maybe he should have done a better job researching Irving's past. He is to say the least an odd duck who is difficult to deal with.

This is a great decision by Nets management. They have now forced Irving's hand and eventually he'll come back and the distraction will then soon disappear.

Philadelphia is in need of a star guard. and has a giant asset to get the deal done at least with a third team.

No one is trading for Irving at this time. His salary and the issues he brings along with it make him untradeable.

Irving has enough money to retire. He should do so or demand a trade to a city and organization that respects his personal freedom to choose regarding his medical decisions.
Some of his medical decisions do not solely affect him. That's the nature of contageous diseases.

Almost two years (edit: not months) into this thing and this remains hard for some to grasp, which is almost inconceivable.

He had a chance to claim Australian citizenship once upon a time for international play. Wonder if they would reconsider...

Anyone who wants to be protected can be. Time to move on from the nonsense of the last 19 months. It's up to each individual to decide whether or not they want to be protected. His teammates have chosen to be protected (or coerced through the city's crazy mandate, but that's another discussion). Therefore his teammates are not at risk from him.

No matter what team he goes to it will continue to be an issue. He will have to travel to NYC/California at some point and he won’t be eligible to play in those games either. He is a liability to any team. The teams respect his freedom but you have to also respect their freedom to not have this be a distraction and keep the team focused on winning a championship.

Players for the Nets, Knicks and Warriors would've had to miss out on about 45 game checks , 46 if you're in NY (41 home games, 1 away game in SF, and 3 games vs the Knicks). Kyrie is making about 33 million this year. Basic math says he would have to be willing to sit out and miss out on just over 18 million. He seems to be the 1 that's willing to do what it takes, which I respect, but at the same time, for basketball, there's an obligation to your team to report to work.

I think you realize that even vaccinated folks are able to contract, carry, and even spread COVID (as much as the vaccinations mitigate the likelihood of any of those). So the decision to be vaccinated is not one that only affects that person. If it were, no one would care. But it isn't. We know and understand this and and it's not even a matter of debate.

It's absolutely akin to drunk driving. I assert my right to drink and drive and any attempts to make me not drtive drunk are infringements on my personal rights, freedom, and autonomy.

If the worst possible outcome was that I then drove into a tree and killed myself and myself only, it would still be bad, but with the injury/death limited solely to me, it wouldn't be nearly as much of a public health issue.

But because I'd be just as likely to hit another car driven safely by someone sober, it moves from "personal choice" to dangerous public health issue (and yes, I realize that drunk driving is illegal and that the law has not had time to catch up to this current public health menace of vax refusal).

It's not a personal choice. It affects everyone in his orbit, and everyone they then encounter. The "personal choice" argument couldn't hold less water.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Kyrie has been a total tool from day one. He's stupid, selfish, ignorant and has been pampered for too long. Hats off to Sean Marks for having the balls to stand up and do what's right!💪👊

Of course they can. So then what is the point of a mandate? If you're vaccinated and can still get the disease, why do you care what others do? You're protected to the best level we can be. You can't eliminate all risk. Getting out of bed every day is a risk. Driving to work is a risk. Yet we all do it and don't think twice. Getting sick is part of life. You protect yourself the best you can and if you get sick you treat it and deal with it as best you can. Nature isn't this lovey-dovey place where everyone lives to 100 and never gets sick. Bad things happen. They've always happened throughout human and world history. Modern science has allowed us to reduce our risk, but the risks of life will never be zero.

It's absolutely akin to drunk driving. I assert my right to drink and drive and any attempts to make me not drtive drunk are infringements on my personal rights, freedom, and autonomy.

Apples to oranges. When you drink and drive, you are an established threat to others on the road who have no control over your actions. You've been drinking and the alcohol is the virus in that case, to play your analogy. You are willingly venturing out knowing you are under the influence. Unlike drunk drivers, not all unvaccinated people have the virus. In fact, the majority don't. If they get sick, they are isolated. Now if there were sick people out there willingly spreading the disease to others, then I'd agree with you. But there aren't. Only a criminal would, while sick, willingly expose others to his sickness. Anyone I know who has ever been sick takes great care to avoid others.

It's not a personal choice. It affects everyone in his orbit, and everyone they then encounter. The "personal choice" argument couldn't hold less water.

It is un-American for the government or a business to force adults to take a medical treatment. Do people have a right to bodily autonomy or not? As an American, I will always stand for freedom and dignity. I personally chose to take the vaccine because my doctor convinced it was in my best interests. I didn't take it to protect anyone else, everyone has that choice to make themselves. After many months of debate, research and consideration, I took it because my doctor said it would protect me from severe illness, even though that is unlikely given my age and overall health profile. I took it to protect myself and nobody else.

The bottom line is it is a choice between an individual and his or her doctor (or whatever other sources they use to inform their decision). Even though I chose to take it, I will always stand against mandates and discriminatory policies against those who came to a different decision. That's the American way and I'll never apologize for that. You should watch the press conference of Jonathan Isaac from a couple weeks ago. It's incredibly insightful, maybe you'll learn something about rational thought, informed consent and freedom of choice in America.

We wear a seatbelt as we drive our kids to school. But the govt had a helluva lot of nerve making us wear seatbelts according to many at the time like my Dad. Our kids and we went to school only after we could prove we were vaccinated. I ate a sugar cube with everybody else in the easrly 60s. But for this one, we are indignant that the govt tells us what to do.

Who was that guy on his wife's deathbed who said, yeah, glad she never fell for the govt hoopla on vaxes? Rather axed than vaxed...I think it was no one.

Idk why this is such a story. Even if Kyrie was vaccinated and “happy”, he still wouldn’t play more than 25 games anyway. The nets saying they don’t want a part time player is laughable and a flat out lie…

In the past four years , 2 with the Nets and 2 with the Celtics , Irving played in 74 games for the Nets ,.out of the 145 games the Nets played .In his last 2 years with the Celtics he played in 127 games out of the 164 games they played .Taking the last four seasons together he played in 201 games out of the 309 played. Looking at his “ disappearing act “ last year you just have to wonder if that wasn’t a sign that he didn’t want to play a full season anymore and getting the vacine became a ready excuse.

How about considering the health of the rest of his teammates and the communities he lives in?

Over 600 kids have died from Covid in the US - and we don’t live in a third-world country. This is unacceptable. Remember getting the polio vaccine? I guess this was before the arm-chair scientists had Google to outsmart the experts.

Certain things you do because it makes sense for your own health and for the greater good of the community and the world.

More people have died in the US now from Covid than from the Spanish flu of 1918. This could have been very different if people listened to science. Not blinded by science, but understanding the risk-reward benefits. It’s a no-brainer.

Just get tested daily. He makes more than enough money to afford a daily test with a quick result. Problem solved.

His decision to get vaccinated or not has zero impact on his teammates or his community. Each person can choose to have protection or not. His teammates, who are vaccinated, are not at risk from his choice not to be. Should he come down with the virus, his teammates have protection from it.

600 kids in 19 months? That's an average of about 31 per month, or roughly one a day. It isn't even statistically significant. There are roughly 73 million children in the US. A little over 9,000 children die every year in the US - an average of about 25 per day. All deaths are tragic, but you're citing an average of 1 child covid death every day in the ENTIRE COUNTRY as the basis for your argument? It just doesn't hold any merit at all.

More people have died in the US from this than Spanish Flu because the US population was barely over 100 million in 1918. It is more than three times that today. As a percentage of the population, 0.65% died in the Spanish Flu. To date, 0.21% of the population has died from this virus. Over 3 times less than Spanish Flu. That pandemic eventually receded without a vaccine, by the way.

The facts simply are not on your side. I encourage people to get the vaccine if they feel they are at risk. Most people have. But I will never, ever, support policies that force people to put a substance into their bodies against their will.

Anyone who wants a vaccine can get one and over 75% of the eligible population has. What more do you want? You're never going to get everyone in America to do something like this on such a massive scale, and that's a good thing. Diversity of thought is healthy for our country.

Isn't the nature of a vaccine that it protects against contagious diseases? If the rest of his teammates are vaccinated, how is he affecting them?

vaccine
văk-sēn′, văk′sēn″
noun
A preparation of a weakened or killed pathogen, such as a bacterium or virus, or of a portion of the pathogen's structure that upon administration to an individual stimulates antibody production or cellular immunity against the pathogen but is incapable of causing severe infection.

What’s hard to grasp? More deaths than the Spanish Flu in the 21st century? Ninety five percent or more of people hospitalized or dead from COVID not vaccinated?

Not sure what news sources you read, but every mainstream doctor in every county of NJ and the country would challenge you, and every colleague I speak with for business across the globe speaks proudly of their high vaccination rates. They get it - most of the informed populous does.

This is exactly what makes it an apt comparison. Thank you for inadvertently framing it this way. When you are unvaccinated you are an established threat to others "on the road" with no control over your likelihood to spread COVID, given your susceptibility to contracting, carrying, and spreading it to anyone - even the vaccinated (as much as the odds of that are reduced).

At least drunk people know they are drunk and the vast majority can and do choose not to turn that threat on others. Not so with the vax-resisters.

Also, there are plenty of mandatory vaccines in the country that are completely compulsory. They just haven't been politicized and framed as a threat to freedom before by a political party whose only remaining platform is opposition - to anything at all, sensible or not.

It would be helpful to have even a cursory awareness of current events and the way the biggest story in the world has unfolded over the past two years.

No, it's not an apt comparison. You conveniently omitted the rest of my post, so I'll tell you again - most people who are unvaccinated do not have the virus. They are not a threat to anyone. A drunk driver IS drunk. That person IS a threat to EVERYONE. Not the case with ordinary people who simply chose not to take a new vaccine. Stop assuming every unvaccinated person is a filthy disease carrier. It makes you look like a terrible human being with no dignity or compassion.

The only people who are threats are the small number of people who have the virus (both vaccinated and unvaccinated) who are around unvaccinated people and may pass it along to them. But that's the nature of illness. Viruses find ways to spread, yet we've never shut down the world before for one or forced vaccination on people because of it. But again, the vaccinated are PROTECTED. They are NOT at risk from anyone. I have personally taken the vaccine. I life my life normally. I don't care if I interact with vaccinated or unvaccinated people. The thought never enters my mind.

Regarding mandatory vaccines, there are none for general employment. This is a first. The only mandatory vaccines are for school kids for viruses that are 1) actually a major threat to them (unlike covid) and 2) vaccines that have been studied and evaluated for decades having been proven to be both safe and effective. The covid vaccines have only been studied for a year or so. It is a huge risk to mandate them for huge swaths of the population without having years of safety data to back them up (which we do have for MMR, tetanus, polio, etc.). They also use a delivery method which has never been tried before in any human vaccine. I hope they prove to be safe over years, but knowing that is impossible because they're so new. None of us know and anyone who pretends to is being disingenuous or pushing an agenda. I hope they work marvelously and nobody has any long term issues. But I can see it now, a TV ad in the 2030s - "Did you receive a COVID-19 vaccine between 2020 and 2022? You may be entitled to compensation."

Lots of interesting points on this thread but there's still one question that hasn't been answered.

If both the vaccinated & non-vaccinated can still transmit covid why is there a mandate to get the vaccine?

Shouldn't it be a personal choice based on vulnerability to the virus?

Well said and sensical.

I say get the vaccine but no mandates, why is everyone so eager to virtual signal and control everyone? That's also a sickness.

If the vaccine works, why should anyone care about your vaccine status, it's your choice to (stupidly, IMHO) not be protected?

If it doesn't work, why would you mandate it?

And if it works but not as good as we were told (where we really are), I think you should still get it but a mandate is even more crazy.

We need leadership not dictatorship.
