New Season, Fresh Start, Go Pirates

After 21 years as a season-ticket holder and 28 years as a fan I won't be watching a single second of Seton Hall basketball this season. I thought as the season got closer maybe I'd feel the pull. I don't. All the years of losing didn't chase me away. What happened last season did. To those of you are putting yourself through this again...uh, good luck with that I guess.

We need to support Isaiah Whitehead. Kid is our biggest recruit since been, and our best shot at the NBA in a while. A kid with as high of expectations as him can become mental if things start going south. I think he got a bad rep last year, and we need to go out and show its his team and we all want him to succeed. IW balling out and going to the NBA would be huge for SHU's recruiting game (especially area recruiting).

It seems like he has his back up against the wall, but we all need to make it clear we are on his side 100%.

That goes for the rest of the team as well.

Go Pirates!

Could not have said it better

I don' think anyone criticized BD's decision.

If, and when, I decide to stop following SHU hoops, I'll probably stop posting on and reading an SHU hoops message board.

You can try frontrowsports, but not sure if our game would even be available on there. It's a shady site anyway. The game is only shown regionally, here are the outlets picking up the game:

I think Fox Sports Go would work for this game as well
Thanks.

I checked their site and the icon for the game has a YES symbol on it and also a key symbol. Not sure what that means but looks like it's restricted in some way.

Actually, it appears it's on the YES network. It wasn't showing up when I searched program listings but it's showing as being on when looking at the guide.
not positive but I think that just means you need to log in using your cable provider info to access it, good luck anyway.

I've missed so many good college games on TV going to Newark in sub zero temperatures to watch Kevin Willard run this program into the ground. I'll attend some games this year, but it's hard to excited about Seton Hall basketball anymore when every year is the same brutal story. Play a bunch of cupcakes, get creamed in conference, teammates start turning on each other and Willard quits on the fans and the university.

I have little doubt that's how this season will transpire. Hopefully the university cleans up this cesspool top to bottom next year and throws some serious money at a proven winner (doubtful).

I would rather watch a shitty SHU game than just about any other sporting event. Takes all kinds.

It's been a sad state of affairs. You just described the typical trajectory of a Willard season. We have been beating our head against the wall for 5+ long years now. All true and not debatable. The deplorable record through 5 seasons speaks for itself.

But, here we go again. I hope by some fluke it changes this year, LOL!!! Interested to see all the kids play.

he's def. has it right overall in terms of the trajectory, but our schedule is improved from years past. Not where it needs to be at all, but still an improvement. If we get UVA (and potentially Oklahoma State or Ole Miss), and then add in Georgia, G Wash on the road & WSU, that's not embarrassing by any stretch. it's not like a typical Michigan State OOC, but still decent enough.

But as usual if we lose more than twice in the OOC, you can forget a bid. You gotta have relatively strong OOC wins on your resume.

Hey, think of it this way... the season is upon us and we're undefeated.

Assume I can say that later.

I am hoping more talent and more athleticism will help. I like the talent of four starters, with PF being unknown so far. It is accurate to say the same about SF and 2G I guess, but I feel good about KC and about the two SFs. Can we deal with the lack of depth at guard and will it hurt us defensively? Is Isaiah ready to be the players his HS career predicted for him (I say hell yes!)? Is something up with Angel? I say no, he will be fine. Will Angel get real help on D and the boards? Yeah!! I think Ish, Mike and one of the other guys will emerge as players who can hold their own.

Think of any aspect of the game and we have questions. Like was said above, there are a lot of reasons why a team finishes so poorly as we did last year. But I predict I will not be saying "a lotta pain" to prof ed so often this year! I see Isaiah having a season that we are talking about in 15 years (and 25 years for you younger guys...). I think the team is going to gel behind his offensive onslaught and surprise us.

I can't help myself.

Add these positive quotes from this video (which was posted here):

KW: "Deepest team we've had."

Angel Delgado: "These guys, they're never selfish. That's what I love about them, they're never selfish, they play like a team."

Braeden Anderson: "Knowing what to expect from the coaching staff. I've learned a ton. [...] As far as my basketball career thus far, I don't think I've learned more in such a short period of time. The coaching staff here is just so bright, and they have so many things to teach you, and even as an older, experienced player, I think I've seen what a great opportunity I've had to learn."

I know we have had difficulties translating practice to the games so I have no issue with those that laugh at me when I say watching Willard's practices are amazing.

The man misses nothing. His teaching is second to no coach I have ever seen in person. I scratch my head when asked to explain the record because despite a few things I won't post the rest is a puzzle to me.

Willard knows the game. He communicates that knowledge in practice. The rest I'll leave for our readers to speculate.

Having knowledge of any subject is only part of the equation with the other part being having the ability to effectively communicate that knowledge so it can understood and used effectively.

phipirates. It will be on DirectTV on YES(631) and a slew of Fox affiliated channels(646,671,686,692,653). I'm sure your local bar will have the game.

Let's Go Pirates!

Actually, this doesn't surprise me. I don't think it's even that unusual. There are many people across various industries and markets who are exceptional at the technical points and understanding the variables at play.

But it's a totally different skill set to be able to bring those to life, communicative effectively and truly lead when it comes to dealing with changing personalities based on real life versus the silo, controlled enviornment of the practice court.

Those who can do both rise to be the cream of the crop.

Tough times hit and the team cracks because it goes off script for KW. It's a repeated occurrence despite rosters turning over. And that's what gets him every time. EVERY TIME. The 2011-12 implosion that spit away the NCAA's, the 2013-14 team that couldn't finish, last year going from #19 in the country then losing 12 of 15 to spit away the NCAA's... All different rosters.

Couldn't find that mental toughness as a team to get through turbulence.

He said he learned a lot from last year. We'll see. We have no other choice but to hope that's the case.
