Next NJ GOV

She was part of a delegation of about a dozen members of congress including a couple republicans.

She’s a politician who has higher aspersions. She’s not really unique in that sense. She’s not a “chosen” candidate. She has been angling to run for governor for years.

Speaking at Davos was just an opportunity for her to build her brand. She was on the same panel with (among others) Sinema, Salazar and Brian Kemp and even criticized Pelosi for not reaching across the aisle at all as speaker.

No one here has really given a reason why they don’t like her other than the fact that she is a politician trying to be a politician.
Hypocrite politician like all of the others. I think during her last campaign she had a commercial she will always fight to keep the government out your health decisions. Yet the previous 2 years she was all for vaccine mandates. Again no different than the others, just another one who will follow wherever the left goes whether she personally agrees or not.

That’s where I’m landing as well so far. There have been several posts here though making it seem like she’s far worse than typical politicians so I started looking into her more and I don’t get where that’s coming from. She seems like a typical politician to me. Not that that’s a good thing, but I haven’t seen much that’s uniquely bad from her (outside of wearing the pilot jacket in her ad…) some things I liked and some things I didn’t, just like most politicians.

Besides claiming to be a Blue Dog when she first ran for the House, my main beef with her is her staunch support for the most extreme abortion laws in the country and her outright lying about her opponent's stand on the matter. Not much this past cycle, but in 2022 she lied her way to a victory.

I second the poster above that said she would be Phil Murphy Part II.

What's kind of ironic is that everyone seems to be tired of more of the same politicians, but when going for change from the same old type of politician Trump is getting major backlash. Now I'm not defending all of his picks but he's definitely trying something new.

I'm not shocked conservatives don't like her. I was just trying to understand if there was something unique about her that couldn't be said for 90+% of politicians.

Again, I'm not suggesting that's a good thing. Just seems more of a typical politician than a radical from what I have seen.

Absolutely agree. Voters now seem to be valuing a politician being genuine.
A few dems get that but the far majority do not.
And either does the press. Trump is surrounding himself with a group of people that understand and are committed to executing his platform. Some "insiders" politicians and some outsiders. The press does not get that most of the people that voted for him are probably on board with many if not all of them. Dems (and even Republicans) need to understand that when propping up future candidates especially if he has a successful term.

There's a lot of DC lifers on both sides who know how to make money for themselves in the current system. This is a threat to their greed. Call me crazy but I'm sure there are some who have more gold bar type things in their closet than Menendez.

Which ones?
Also-For all: what are NJ democrats pushing as far as agenda? How about legislation? Noisiest issue I have heard about is the “lack of housing” to paraphrase

Which ones?

The ones that can go into an interview, give thoughtful answers and not look like they are acting or just repeating party lines.
Just mean that is not something we see often.

Not going to make a full list to get into a debate on each but AOC is an example of someone who is genuine.
Doesn't mean I agree with everything she says and does, but she's willing to talk on any issue without having her responses poll tested.
She speaks candidly on things others wouldn't touch.

So far, running on being anti-Trump (that's not a good thing) abortion (not a good thing) and taxes.
We'll see actual plans are over the next several months.

I think it will be Spadea vs. Gottheimer.

Bail reform must be ...re-reformed. Guy released (numerous times) thanks to NJ bail reform just murdered 3 people in NYC. Trump only lost NJ by 5 points, wouldn't be surprised to see a Trumper and outsider like Spadea make a run.

You have to be more clear there. Why are you using that to call out opposition to Sherrill?
Obviously you are not referring to policies. I question your propensity to call out statements that are not favorable to liberal politicians and somehow coming out appearing to be even handed.

I don’t care if people oppose her. I’m not looking to argue with you if you don’t like her policies.

There were just several comments here (not from you) that made it sounds like she was far worse than a normal NJ democrat.

That’s what made me look into her at all, and while I’m willing to be convinced otherwise, I don’t see it.

Depends on the issue. I have opinions that are more liberal so if we’re talking about a political issue my views would align more with democrats, just like yours would align more with republicans, but I don’t like the Democratic party overall.

Say what???? AOC = performative at best..... very dramatic and cringy.... like when she had faux tears at the border when she decried kids in cages........I don't remember her being at the border to complain about how kids are beig treated during Biden admin.... or the dress she wore at the MET with tax the rich written on the back......From a BBC report at the time:

The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), a nonpartisan watchdog, issued a report on Thursday that says the Democratic politician was provided with the dress, a handbag, shoes and jewellery for the event. She also received hair, makeup and transportation services as well as the use of a hotel room for the event.
"While Rep. Ocasio-Cortez appears to have now paid for the rental value of the attire she wore to the Met Gala and for the goods and services she and her partner received in connection with this September 2021 event, payment for these goods and services did not occur until after the OCE contacted her in connection with this review," the OCE said in a report released on Thursday.

Just two quick top of the head examples of how she operates...... if those are examples of "genuine"..... then you are making some false equivalence or giving "being genuine" a negative connotation. Being authentic or genuine has a positive connotation to it.
I just don't see it.

Agree she has made mistakes.
My point is that if you listen to her in an interview or even when she goes live on instagram, it’s refreshing to hear a politician just give their opinions that aren’t in line with the party talking points.

I don’t agree with everything she says, so I’m not here to defend her… I just want more politicians to be honest about their views.

Seth Moulton is another example. His comments about trans people were spot on. He’ll now have to deal with some absurd backlash because god forbid a democrat offends someone.

OK....... but a strange pick, IMO, with all the politicians out there to choose from. So I assume you consider Trump genuine too. The difference is that Trump sets his party's talking points. Not sure I ever heard AOC say anything counter to Bernie Sanders talking points.

So I assume you consider Trump genuine too.

Indeed, I do. Especially compared to Harris and Clinton which is a part of why he won both times. That was my point.

The difference is that Trump sets his party's talking points.

Partly because many non genuine politicians are too afraid to go against him, because the crazier part of the MAGA base will label them as anti-Trump RINOs.

Not sure I ever heard AOC say anything counter to Bernie Sanders talking points.

Not surprising they’d agree on most issues.
Bernie is also very genuine. It’s not “talking points” as much as having strong opinions.

so vote for her
