Next Season

I don’t know how we can evaluate one way or the other with free agency. Hard to know who you want back, besides Coleman, when you don’t know the alternative options.

Agree that makes it difficult. Also dependent on salary. A guy might be worth bringing back for a reasonable $100k but what if he demands $300k? A lot of factors that we arent privy to.

But we do know it's tough to bring 8-12 new guys each year and not expect growing pains. I'd much rather bring back a core of 6-7 guys and really concentrate on nailing the 4 new guys you need to start and 2-3 others.

If you haven't seen the improvement by Dual from the beginning of the season to recent games you have not been watching Seton Hall basketball.
The question is how a comparable player would do getting the same minutes. As Fishham correctly pointed out, it’s all comparative to what you can bring in the door. Sure, he’s better than when he was a DNP. He also hasn’t come close to meet expectations.

If he was on another team, and another fan came on pumping him up, that poster would ridiculed.

And I’ve been as big a proponent of him as anyone and also get everyone is on cloud 9 because we won a game today.

That would be nice to keep those 5, not sure if we will. I think most of them will leave....

I do like Dual and see a ton of potential in him, specifically on defense I just don't understand how he can look so bad sometimes.

You can’t bring dual back as the starting point guard. If he’s willing to be a backup I think there could be a role for him.
He has played over 35 minutes the last two games with very few turnovers, including zero yesterday, good assists numbets lately on a team that struggles to score, efficient shooting, great defense including steals and blocks.

Put some shooters around him that you have to honor and Dual can get in the lane with ease.

His timely baskets in first half kept us in the game. We lose without those baskets.

He is a sophomore
Was on NBA draft lists coming out of high school. People don't get on those lists because they are not ultra talented and ultra athletic.

IMO may be the most important piece to retain. You can see it starting to click.

When he stops hesitating on offense, he will be a real problem.

Healthy debate…Do you think we could be a top half BE team with Dual running the show and why?
My answer is immediately above.
Absolutely.
He is a ++ athlete
Did you see his 2 blocks on the guy they are calling a lottery pick?

Did you see his steal yesterday down the stretch that got us the ball back?

I said on this board a month ago to give him 30 plus minutes and coach him up.

What did Dual do yesterday that gives you concern?

How about his 6 of the team's 7 assists at Georgetown?

He has bounced all through high school and from Providence to Seton Hall.

Get him some coaching stability with Sha this summer and he can have a Richmond jump next year.

Not sure what you are seeing from my posts speak to only one game? I don't need to debate with you on this. It is my opinion and I have no idea what he jumped every year in high school. I am.judging him on what I saw in spurts last year and what I have seen here since he has been given the ball for 30+ minutes the last month. He is really young and will develop.

You asked what i saw yesterday. I am saying i dont go off of 1 game….i am judging it on his whole dreadful season

Coleman, Middleton, our 2 Freshman, and Dual....... Go after everyone else........
Need to upgrade at every position except isaiah. The guys u listed need to be recruited over, take a lesser role or less money. It all comes doen to who else we can afford.

If Davis and Richmond each got $900,000 ( even if they didn't), what are best guesses that Coleman will be offered?

Felton doesn't look happy. My guess: less than 50-50 that he returns.

Despite Donnie Marshall's positive shout-out to Gus, I don't see his few minutes doing much for us yesterday against athletic bigs.

Hes deathly afraid to attack the rim and driving lanes. Opposite if kadary
He and Coleman were the guys hurley was talking about in the huddle when he said they are driving us to the front of the rim. Watch the first 10 minutes of yesterday's game. There is no win yesterday without Dual's play in that first 10 minutes.

some in this thread hated kadary's game too.

our offense, even yesterday, is not good. and we dont shoot well and that makes driving harder. that is all going to make a pg job harder. and the slowness sha wants.

dual doesnt finish well. neither does zay. they both need to get stronger and better at the rim - encouraging and seeking out contact sometimes.

if dual is our starting pg next yr that is ok with me.

Dual has been improving - actually driving north/south at times for a change - but there will be better PG options available. Some continuity is important. I'm not sure we have a BE starter with eligibility other than Coleman. Middleton could be for sure. Erheriene is showing big time of late. I'd probably try to keep Felton around. I see Dual (plus defender with length, maybe can develop more offensively) and Aligbe as solid bench players. Aligbe flashed for a bit, but for some reason seems more effective as a undersized center than a BE starting PF. I like Yalden for all the little things maybe.

So that's 7. And that's basically our depth. Need impact/starting PG and SG, legit starting big or two.

Our 5th-year players are the ones that really burnt us this year from poor play and/or injuries (Addae-Wusu, Jenkins, Toumi). And the whiff on Harmon who should've been an experienced PG didn't help, obviously.

Yes, I want him back and I want to make him the centerpiece of the retention plan with Godswill, Coleman and Dual.

They are 1-7 with an average margin of defeat since the St John’s game of 17.5 points. Sure he could continue to improve but without a huge leap you’re looking at the bottom of the league again Next year. There’s also a degree of padding those stats by playing in games where you are getting your doors blown off.

It's the offense with the Dual. Over the past 7 games or so he seems to have more of a clue. He has an average 103 o-rating the past 7. While only .420 from the field but 18/36 from 2, 3/14 from 3. He's 11/16 from the line and gotten there more frequently. He has 32 assists to 10 turnovers for a team that's been short handed and stunk and that's the best measure of his improvement while play 35 MPG the past 7., especially the turnover improvement. He's been better offensively.

Overall in BE play his 22.6 assist rate is 11th in the league (good), but he has a 23 turnover rate (bad). He's 14th in block rate and 5th in steal rate (good). We know he's a pretty good defender overall; not elite, but could get there.

Hard to pick an arbitrary point in time and base one’s evaluation of those statistics. You cherry pick and anyone can be made to look good.

I am basing on his play since he was handed the ball for the team and starting consistently playing over 30 minutes a game.

If we want to wait until he is a senior to figure out of he was a good player, it would not be a projection.

It isn’t a surprise to me that kids like Dual, Scotty M, etc start to look and play a little better. They have talent. More minutes, natural growth.

The question is can you get someone better for those projected minutes. I’m not sure if we know the answer to that yet.
