Next Season

We spent 2 years complaining about NIl availability and you somehow think we are going to bring in 7 A recruits this off season.

St John's was good last year, but Pitino called out his players when we beat them at the Garden and said he needed to change the recruits he brings in. He still brought back Wilcher, Zuby and a few others and filled in with recruits.
You’re missing the best returnee from last years SJU team. He is among a small number in mix for Big East player of the year.

No. It’s not an all or nothing scenario. You want to bring back Coleman and Dual and Middleton as bench guys. That’s ok. Supplement them with 4-5 new players. But you can’t be bringing back 5 or 6 players in from a historically bad roster.

St Johns finished 20-13/11-9. It was a much better roster.
So bringing in five better new starters is going to cost $3+ million…with no guarantees and no continuity. As I said earlier (and realistically). Spend money on two starters with the folks that were suggested to come back.

Then you will get what you pay for.

It’s better at this point to see how the team progresses through the rest of the season. Some of the players are getting better by leaps and bounds (Godswill) some still have question marks( Dual) We have to do what we can to hold onto Coleman. Then let the team continue to work together. I believe you have to hold onto at least 50% of the players from year to year just to have continuity or it’s going to be the same as this year.

That’s fine. Bring them back. But do it understanding they are not going to play any significant minutes, outside of Coleman.
Correct. They all arent doing the 180 we need them to do. Also depends on budget and who we bring it, if we can

Felton doesn't look happy. My guess: less than 50-50 that he returns.
I've seen this about Felton, but the fact is he's a freshman on a struggling team and there really hasn't been much to be happy about.

However, it was nice to hear this message from him at the beginning of the cinematic recap video:

"Today, this was the brotherhood from the jump
Everything that went wrong, we stayed together, talked, we got to keep that going the whole year." I know it's just talk, but I'm interpreting this that he's still invested despite how hard it's been this year. I hope he sticks around.

It's spring 1986 and we're coming off a 14-18 (3-13 BE) season. Which of these players are we looking to keep?

30 MPG - 14 PPG - 52.3 FG - 7.5 RPG - 0.5 APG
23.3 MPG - 7.6 PPG - 39.4 FG - 1.7 RPG - 1.8 APG
19.7 MPG - 7.5 PPG - 44.1 FG - 1.5 RPG - 2.5 APG
16.9 MPG - 6.3 PPG - 44.5 FG - 4.2 RPG - 0.3 APG
24.4 MPG - 6.2 PPG - 47.8 FG - 4.1 RPG - 0.9 APG
16.3 MPG - 5.0 PPG - 52.0 FG - 1.4 RPG - 2.1 APG
25.2 MPG - 3.3 PPG - 30.1 FG - 2.6 RPG - 5.2 APG
5.6 MPG - 2.4 PPG - 61.9 FG - 1.4 RPG - 0.1 APG
8.3 MPG - 2.2 PPG - 57.1 FG - 2.2 RPG - 0.1 APG

This team lost to Columbia at home and St. Peter's on the road. There were also wins over Pace, Lemoyne and Dowling.

Morton Greene Walker and Ramon. It’ll never work! When they were frosh I guess they didn’t know they could get better.
Thanks. Perspective.

Your missing the point. Pitino wanted Zuby and Wilcher back even though they played lesser roles on last year's team.

Was thinking the exact same thing, but didn’t know how to word it. Exactly this.

Now if we beat UConn on the road, we have a little more of a mirror season maybe (the sweep of Georgetown the following year—though UConn this year not the same caliber of G-town that year).

I pointedly kept the players anonymous although it's easy enough to figure some of them out right away.

Our current team is clearly not as talented as many of our opponents but our inexperience is at least as big as issue. I'm not saying all of our younger players will turn into solid BE players but some of them have shown there is a path there.

I predict next season we will be starting all over again with at least 8 new players.
Not really going out on a limb there. That’s status quo — pretty much the over/under number for thr vast majority of teams.

It is not apples to apples comparison with this years Seton Hall roster. Pitino wanted them back not just for continuity purposes but because they were Top 40 recruits who originally picked UNC and Kansas.

They were making big money last year and were going to be big parts of this year’s team regardless of their roles last year once Soriano and Jenkins left. He is not keeping guys around who can’t play just for continuity.

It is similar to what he is doing with the two euro kids (Prey and Lutopolis) this year. They and Glover will be big contributors next year. Take massive jumps in production.

On the 2nd episode of Vice documentary last night it is quite clear it takes a certain player to play for Pitino no matter what the dollars are.

Garwey was a top 50 recruit and Scotty was top 60, so the same logic applies.
I guess it depends if Sha is confident that they can take big jumps in production like Zuby and Wilcher in year 2 in program.

He has to get that right or it will be another difficult year in NIL world. Only so much money to go around.

Bamba sabotaged Nova season last year taking big money and then not producing at that level. They could barely get by DePaul in BET last year.
