Which is worse...taxpayer money going to the NFL, or the NFL being so tone-deaf that they would require $10 million to "take credit" for honoring our military heroes?

My dad was a U.S. Navy veteran and I personally feel we should thank and honor our veterans every chance we get, but this just stinks to me and it's all about being self-serving (NFL) and wasteful (Government). Why not just do it because it's the right thing to do? Does the NFL also accept money from Battered Womens groups to run their ads?

This is a huge waste of taxpayer money.

What's going on in Atlanta? All of their teams have very high dollar amounts compared to the rest, especially in FY13. In that year, $3,139,960 was spent across all sports. Atlanta sports teams alone received 23.5% of that, nearly a quarter of the total expense. Something stinks here. As always, we need to follow the money and see where it leads!

It is mind boggling that the idea of asking for money for these things would ever even creep into someone's head, let alone actually do it.

The sports teams in my opinion. We have been paying for military PR forever, every time we see a commercial "honoring" our soldiers - we are paying for it. Every team that would accept money for one of those moments live in a stadium though is absurd and insulting.
I get why we have PR campaigns, but we shouldn't miss the opportunity to be genuine in our gratitude to the members of the military.

I know that I am out of the mainstream here... but I stopped watching NFL games years ago....

Agree with the prior posts as both parties are simply wrong in this endeavor (the Govt and the NFL). Of course we should honor our veterans - they put their lives on the line and keep us safe.

The NFL is one of the biggest money grubbing organizations ever. I love it but I gave up my season tix and will watch on TV and am very happy I did.

As for the government that is another story. It's an open checkbook spending our tax dollars. I'm all for military recruiting but someone has to apply some judgement and be accountable to the taxpayers please but that is not how most government decision makers think unfortunately.
