10. New York Giants 4-1 (14)

OK, the Giants are for real. Before overcoming a 14-point first-half deficit for a 27-22 win against the Packers their fast start seemed like the product of beating up bad teams. You can’t say that anymore. Saquon Barkley is pretty much the entire offense, but the unheralded defense just keeps excelling with backups plugged in for injured starters.

15. New York Jets 3-2 (19)

Cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed locked up Dolphins speedsters Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Gardner got his first career interception and knocked starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater out of the game on a blitz to start the game. The Jets rushed for five touchdowns for just the third time in franchise history in a 40-17 rout.

Clearly nobody in this ranking truly believes in either team. Both have the lowest ranking re their records.

Giants have a better record than Green Bay and just beat them. Yet are ranked lower.

Jet's have the same record as Miami and just destroyed them. Yet are ranked lower.

Too many poor years to have gained any respect yet.

Chance to make the playoffs: 53.4%
Chance to win their division: 1.5%

Surprise, surprise. The NFC East is the best division in the NFL right now with the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants having a combined 13-2 record. That is pretty much the Giants' only imposing obstacle on the road to the playoffs. They still have three games remaining against the Eagles and Cowboys, and two against the Commanders. If the Giants can do well within the division (they were 1-5 in 2021, and are already 0-1 this season), they could very well make the playoffs. -- Jordan Raanan

16. New York Jets (3-2)

Week 5 ranking: 23

Chance to make the playoffs: 25.6%

The Jets need high-level quarterback play. To be fair, Zach Wilson is 2-0 since returning from his knee injury and has put together five good quarters in a row, but he has yet to demonstrate that he can carry the team for a full game. He still doesn't have a 300-yard passing game or a three-touchdown-pass game in his career. The Jets are built to be balanced on offense, reducing the burden on the quarterback, but there will be games in which they need Wilson to bail them out. Can he do it? -- Rich Cimini

Despite having the second best record in the league 21 teams are ahead of the Giants re winning the Super Bowl
Giants +8000

Despite having the seventh best record in the league 23 teams are ahead of the Jets re winning the Super Bowl
Jets +15000

Clearly no one is taking NY football seriously after so many seasons of despair.
