Over the years I have attended several road games and have bought tickets through every Big East school except Creighton. This year every one of these schools has approached me about giving to support the team’s NIL Fund. Some of them, including Providence and SJU have sent me multiple requests. They are very professionally done and do not come across as crass nor overbearing. They make the approaches I receive from SHU to appear sophomoric in comparison. I feel like we are trying to win a war with a water pistol. We need better leadership and better marketing to improve our outcomes.

Honest question here:

I think we would all agree this site represents a small passionate/ die hard portion of the fan base. The attitude and feeling about nil on this site is very negative with lots of posters calling out P2P, NIL, cost of players, losing love of sport etc

Are other schools experiencing this? Are we extra negative? Is it because we haven’t been successful? Are other schools the same but they have more big fish donors that it doesn’t matter what fans think of it

Or is there something cultural at SHU that we are extra against nil and p2p and it doesn’t matter what the school does or does not do

Another illustration of need for a GM. Not going to happen while Sha controls HIS program . Hall does not have the proper leadership as shown by another Year passing while the Hall is exposed to being far behind and without direction.

Would you attach 1 or 2 of the requests from other schools as an example? Thanks

I think the consensus is that NIL is sleazy, nowhere near what the intention was to benefit off likeness. And the money thrown at these guys is nuts. But if you’re not allowing the players the benefit off what you’re reeling in off their likeness – NCAA revenue sharing, ahem – and some guardrails are shut down in the legal system, this is what you get.

My opinion is the majority of all fans don’t like the principle it’s become. But the schools are doing a FAR BETTER JOB at creating value of it, normalizing it, and being professional about it which soothes the notion. Basically, get away from any clamoring for amateurism and just make it about supporting rooting for your school’s team. Seton Hall does none of this, so it looks and feels even worse. Plus, we’re poor, making matters even more abstract.

SHU has institutional issues with such things. See endowment.

Its all about creating value for the consumer. We as fans are much more apt to hold our noses and donate if there is value beyond just watching our money go into a black hole.

This has been commented on countless times. I think I posted 8-10 things they could do (that others schools do) that would be inexpensive/zero cost and would offer some tangible value to fans. Others have done similar.

They either very simply don't care or are too inept to do much besides shake their can in our direction. I'm over it. I renew season tickets I can't even sell for $5 if I need to, I haven't even gotten the annual token $20 coupon to McCloones. No invites to practices, no closed door tours of facilities, no holiday parties. They quite literally do nothing besides shake the can. It's a shame.

I can second this and have stated same on the board a while ago. I attended games two years in a row (not this past year) at The Dunk in Providence and got on their mailing list. I removed myself recently but was impressed by what they were doing and this started about three years ago. They send emails at least once a week with different offers for fans, different ways to contribute, NIL gear to wear, fan participation stuff, player stories etc. It's very professional and they don't apologize. Their messaging is constant and well done which is the mark of a good marketing program.

We do about 1/10th of that I would say maybe. It's embarrassing that Seton Hall offers a marketing major and this is how we market our signature program. Blame the Admins, Sha and everyone involved.
