If they can block Trump, they can block anyone. I guess Kathy Griffin gets a pass?
Not a fan of Trump or the lies he is spewing, but I am not a fan of censorship. That is the beginning of a slippery slope and very dangerous to democracy.
Also, pretty ironic the Ayatollah has a Twitter account and has called for the extermination of Israelis, but guess that doesn’t get your account terminated.
Or perhaps they put something behind it and ban any account that openly incites violence.
And so it begins. Trump looking into starting his own platform. Trump will be more dangerous to the establishment outside the White House than inside it.
Unfortunately, 5 people are dead because Trump and a few other select people lied to these people and told them that the election was stolen, that they could overturn the results and they need to fight.
If they were still alive, Trump would still have his Twitter account.
Twitter as a platform had to decide if there should be a consequence to the rhetoric that lead to these deaths. I don’t know if I would have done it in the same position since that could make things worse in the long run, but I don’t know how you do nothing either.

A lot more than 5 people are dead because of things incited on the Twitter. Isn’t it discrimination that only one person has been banned? I’m pretty sure terrorist groups have accounts and are not banned.

Discrimination? No. Twitter has banned many people for violating rules Trump has violated many times. He could have been banned years ago.
It was a single decision based on a certain set of circumstances.
Didn’t you just say if those people were still alive you believe he would still have his Twitter. So the reason he got shut down is 5 people died for a cause he promoted and even helped create. If you look at the number of people who promoted things that resulted in 5 people dying, more than Trump should be permanently deleted. Heck BLM promoted and created protests all over that resulted in 5 deaths, shouldn’t they be banned too.

Beyond what any random jackass says on Twitter, they also have to consider the reach of those people and what kind of impact their tweets have.
If you have a BLM leader with millions of cultish followers and inciting them towards violence then absolutely they should be banned too.

terrorist accounts are indeed banned. and removed. the problem is they are hard to find. small groups that pop up undercover of millions of accounts.

How is it controversial he got banned? As much as I dont like the liberals who run Twitter, it's their platform. If someone incites an assault on the Capitol with lies and stoking of violence they should feel lucky they only got banned from twitter. What Trump has done could be sedition against our country. I've backed that group of people as much as anyone. I've scene the help they need when traveling throughout the country for my work. They need jobs, they need healthcare, but they also need to value education. By and large rural whites are very uneducated and that's something they can control.
Ok but find ways to get all people of all colors, creeds, locations, etc educated, but don't just ignore them and say Trump can have them if you think that is bad in the long run. They're still Americans.
I believe he did break twitter's rules, and they made a decision.
I don't really get into the weeds of "but what about everything else" because I don't expect Twitter to get everything right all of the time. If you want to make the argument that Twitter should ban more people, I'd probably agree but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have banned Trump just because they haven't banned everyone else.
Each circumstance is different. I don' think they wanted to ban Trump. If they did, he could have been banned many times before for breaking their rules. I think they just got to the point where they saw the history of behavior, current political environment and future potential and did not want to be the platform which allowed Trump to push this any further.

I'll put it this way. Jimmy B has probably tampered to get players his entire coaching career, yet KW gets a 2 game suspension along with Sha getting a longer suspension. Tampering is wrong, all should be punished. But when KW gets suspended and Whineheim doesn't it's frustrating and the look is terrible.
As the poster above noted Trump being banned is fine but others like the Ayatollah and Kathy Griffin have accounts and aren't banned? Come on man.
