Re: Bozzella

Terrific. I hope the students turn out in force. My geezer alum friends and I will be there.

Re: Bozzella

Dan this confuses me... This photo and their promo on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram all say "5:30pm"... But that article you posted the other day said that the doors open at 6pm and the "party" starts at 7pm.

What's the deal?!?

Re: Bozzella

Pat, I think the "snacks" part is what is moving the party up a bit in terms of time. The 5:30 time is good.

Also - our Travel Crew will be there - so hope to meet you. Look for those words on the T-shirt.

Re: Bozzella

We all know and recognize the great job Tony and his staff has done in their two year's together and no one could have predicted how much this team has achieved . There is one other aspect of his regime that also deserve recognition and that is he has brought the fans back to women's basketball and created a true family environment between players, staff and the fans. While winning can provide an assist in bringing the fans back , the real mover behind that is Tony, his personality, his openness and his willingness to embrace the fans and the fans are reciprocating . So Thanks Tony and your staff for making the fan a part of your basketball family.

Pat the time was bumped up a 1/2 hour because the school and Tony decided to add a few things to the event.

The players will be walking around the gym talking to the fans.

They'll be a short video on the seniors.

Tony and one of the young ladies will address the crowd.

There will be free posters given out and if anyone, including children, want the posters signed the team and staff will do so.

There will be a free raffle with the winner getting a signed women's BB. Whoa to any adult who doesn't give it to one of the young girls in attendance. Unless of course you have you own family member in mind. LOL

And then Selection Monday on a big screen

Let's support this amazing team and our staff. Just last year, Tony's first as head coach we were picked by the Big East coaches tenth in a ten team league. Now a year later 28-5 and counting we get a chance to thank everyone involved.

Re: Bozzella

Thanks for the info!

I have some family priorities to take care of until about 545/6pm... If I arrive at the rec center around 6:15/6:25 I shouldn't have any problems, correct? I'll just miss some of the festivities?

The Selection Show itself doesn't start until 7 so I'm thinking you wouldn't miss too much, certainly not the actual seeding announcement and location where the ladies will be playing.

WBB to Host NCAA Selection Show Celebration MondayPirates hope to make first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1995.

Seton Hall sits at 28-5 overall and won the BIG EAST Regular Season title.
March 13, 2015

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Poised to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years, the No. 24/22 Seton Hall University women's basketball team will host an NCAA Selection Show celebration on Monday night in Walsh Gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6 p.m., and the selection show slated to begin at 7 p.m.

All fans, students, alumni and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate what is expected to be the Pirates' first NCAA Tournament berth in two decades.

Seton Hall enters the postseason with a 28-5 overall record, and as BIG EAST Regular Season champions and runner-up in the BIG EAST Tournament. The conference regular season crown was the first in program history, and as the top seed in the conference tournament the Pirates advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game for the first time since 1995.

While The Hall fell just short of earning the BIG EAST's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, Seton Hall boasts an impressive resume for an at-large berth to the postseason. The Pirates were No. 39 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, and racked up 10 wins against teams ranked in the RPI Top-100, with a 2-1 record against the Top-50.

SHU has already set a program single-season record for wins (28), passing the 1993-94 squad that won 27 games and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Pirates returned to the NCAA Tournament the following year, advancing to the second round, but have not qualified for the Big Dance since. The Hall has not lost consecutive games all season and posted a 17-1 mark inside of Walsh Gym.

Under second-year head coach Anthony Bozzella the Pirates have made quite a turnaround, winning more games during the 2014-15 season than they had combined in the three years prior to Bozzella's arrival.

With a fast-paced offensive system, Seton Hall is averaging a school record 75.8 points per game, which ranks 18th in the nation. The Pirates saw three players earn All-BIG EAST honors for the first time, with graduates Ka-Deidre Simmons (Newark, N.J.) and Daisha Simmons (Jersey City, N.J.) landing on the First-Team, and junior Tabatha Richardson-Smith receiving Second-Team honors.

Bozzella was rewarded as the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, and is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith National Women's College Coach of the Year award.

I know Bozzella is a SH graduate and hope he is here a long time.but in my mind, reality sets in.Financial security for Bozzella and his family .Some state university from a top conference offers a half to a million dollar a year contract with guarantees .What does Bozzella do ? What would any of us do?

It depends on what he wants. He's making a good salary at SHU, he's from Long Island, he went to school at SHU, and he has coached in Long Island (Southampton and LIU), New Rochelle, and now South Orange. What price tag can you put on moving to take over a destitute big conference program that is nowhere near where you and your family have lived your entire lives?

The coaching path and hierarchy in women's college basketball is not nearly as straight and structured as it is with the men.

Everyone's motivation is different and I wouldn't guess what Tony wants for him and his family. I do know if he can do the types of things he has shown the last two years, he has a job for life here at SHU. Sometimes its about grabbing the money when opportunity arises...sometimes it's about the long haul. He seems like a great guy that makes good decisions for himself and his family....who am I to question whether he stays or moves on at some point.

He loves it here and loves the people. His wife and kids too.

I gotta believe he, like Harry Peretta ( 25 years +) at Nova WBB, is a lifer..

We just have to be fair with the money.

Can't see Tony leaving. This is his dream job.

About 300-400 people were in attendance last night including many from the men's team.

There was a ton of food and drink and free SHU shirts given to everyone who attended.

SHU did this first class. Hopefully when travel details are posted on the official site later today we can get a few bus loads of fans to go watch SHU vs RU play in Ct.

Great Coach, motivator and probably most importantly a good guy who deserves everything that has happened to him and more. A dynamite team who I will be watching and rooting for in the NCAA's.

Did you happen to notice specifically which players were there? Just curious.

I dont mean this as arguing and im sure he will be here for a long time. But there is no way this is accurate. What if Tennesse called tomorrow? Or Notre Dame? He would leave in 2 seconds. We should just be happy we have a good coach who has done a very very good job and take it for what it is

But Tennessee and Notre Dame or any other elite program won't be calling. If Bozzella was going to get a call from a big conference school, it would be, at best, an average program and likely a below average or bad program. Dawn Staley is a perfect example. She took Temple from a nothing program into a perennial NCAA team. After doing a great job over eight years there, the best offer she could get was from a bad South Carolina team that she has turned into a powerhouse.

Yeah, pie-in-the-sky, if Bozzella got an offer from a great program, he'd have to take it. That's just not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

Yeah, I posted a long list of everybody who was there on the Trove. Including some past Hall players from the 70ies.
