Up in the clouds
Pitino’s NCAA Tournament run was brief and unfortunate.

Generally I don’t like to see a school from our conference be on the losing end of such a big upset - especially since it seems like The Big East needs to continually prove itself every March.

Screw it, though. I’m happy to see that team go down in flames and utter devastating disappointment. Fitting Richmond had to watch from the bench at the end(though I do admit his fifth foul was BS). The kid got paid, but it didn’t mean jack in March.

Kadary is not made for big moments. The 5th foul call was horrific, but he looked deer in headlights from the beginning like we saw so many times.

Sorry but if conferences like ours don’t show up this is another reason for the big boys to discard us in the future. Can’t stand another SEC team moving on.

Our league has won what, four of the last eight NCAA Tournament? I hear what you’re saying but it’s not like we’ve come up empty for a generation like the Big Ten.

Ran into a team with a bigger billionaire - actually 3 bigger billionaires. Will likely just lead to him spending more.
Exactly. And if the R word should set his money on fire, what does that say to everybody here who is begged to contribute to the NIL grift, as recently as today coming off the season we just had. At least Repole got a league title, a tournament title, and exposure for his school we haven’t seen since 1989. How about all those here who contributed to Onward - do our fans get money back or should we burn that too?

Really surprised St John’s didn’t play some zone considering their foul trouble & Ark. lack of outside shooting.

Also, Lewis looked like he was sick.
What Self did.

Then again this game was one possession down the stretch and maybe there was a rebounding concern.

Plus every dollar they spent on NIL was worth the investment. Extra games at the Garden with 19,000 fans and overall increase in alumni and fan engagement. Spend money to make 💰.

Exactly. All kids of revisionist history gets babbled when a team has a bad loss on this level. It came down to Luis having a terrible game and Richmond being mostly a non-factor and off the court the last 7 minutes.

You play the whole year for this moment. They laid an egg. The gate may look great but it’s not what really counts.

You are right, but at the same time, I didn’t feel this way in 1993. Maybe you did and I was younger.

Not enough to show for it. He won’t feel good.
With the disappointment he has had in some horse races CL82 is right. No only will he not miss the money he will get over it real quick. His horse was the favorite for the Kentucky derby and was scratched the morning of the race.

I hear what you’re saying but the champion is only one team a year. If gonzaga won in back to back years no one be saying you know that WCC is one heck of a conference. Creighton and UConn winning would be huge

Not sure what you're arguing here. What does it say that Mike Walsh has to "beg" a message board filled with engaged fans to donate -- for a prize, no less? <200 entries on the night of is pretty sad, and it wasn't expensive. When things are bad is when we need engagement and money -- not holding out for or "waiting to see" a better team next year. This is a recipe to stay where we are.

As I said in Mike's thread on the raffle - we have a lot of people who complain loudly, but won't shell out a few bucks to help support a raffle (or a hat, a watch, SHU merch) -- ironically hurting the program that they purport to love or support. Complaining without some kind of meaningful support is useless (and ironic). Might as well get in the SJU raffle and watch Repole eat with his mouth open.

Maybe. Either way doubt he’s giving up.

i think for many of us it’s tough to intellectually come to grips with NIL. It just seems like we’re buying players from year to year. I think Carino made a valuable point when he wondered what senior nights will look like in the future. We’ve always had transfers but we’re missing the affinity of being alums with these players. Fewer and fewer will earn degrees. And I don’t just mean from SHU. I gave last year to NIL and wonder if my giving should be to the university for academic programs instead.

Horrible performance by St. John’s and Richmond. Their best player shot 3-17, big east player of year. Very good chance conference will not have a team in sweet 16. Hope I am wrong but don’t see Auburn and Florida getting beat.
Good point, but I'll take the no. 10 team over this year's Flash..... in-the-pan in a N.Y. minute.
