No Tears For Richmond

Didn't see it, but did Pitino say anything about benching Luis at the game's end?
Sure did. Here you go...https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/44363533/rick-pitino-defends-benching-rj-luis-jr-loss-arkansas

pitino said they didnt share the ball. even i knew that. my question, why did it continue, no matter who had the ball. luis did it and so did everyone else. dribble dribble and force it to the hoop when nothing is there. call TO and tell them it cut it out?

First thing Pitino said at the halftime interview. You don’t think he did that multiple other times, and perhaps it’s why Luis didn’t play the last few minutes? That’s the only logical reason. The kid was forcing it and had been successful all year being so aggressive. He kept going back to what’s worked despite what RP was imploring them to do. It happens sometimes when kids are struggling and get caught up in a game.

And of course the kid who always calmed down everyone late and was the closer - Kadary - spent the last 7 minutes on the bench and only played 16 minutes total. So he wasn’t there to settle everyone down and change the course.

When kids are making six and seven figure salaries and can hit the portal immediately (if they haven’t been tampered with already), does anyone think they will listen to every word even a HOF tells them? Welcome to the asylum.

Kadary only played 16 minutes. Huge factor. He influences the game in so many different ways when he’s on the court. Luis was a complete no show and responded really poorly in the face of adversity. I get the feeling this team drove Pitino nuts given the number of enigmas he had.

I pull for the Big East, but no tears shed for the Johnnies.

Yes, but I don’t think that was the case at all with Luis. They won 31 games as a team picked 5th in the league that won’t have a team reach the second weekend. It was all because those kids bought into everything Pitino was preaching. Think it was just a kid getting caught up in the moment with struggles and desperately trying to help his team score. Seen it happen plenty of times to kids who weren’t a problem and he clearly wasn’t the whole year. Just one of those games.

There is no way that team drove him more nuts than normal. They wouldn’t have won as many games if that was an issue. You don’t win that much with their roster consistently all year if they aren’t buying in. There isn’t a single 1st round pick on that team and there may not even be a second rounder this year.
