Nova game thread

Glad Desi back in there. Was taken out after that nice block and converting free throw
Couple ways to look at this... We played like a deer in headlights on offense in the first half.... And have allowed them to have 2 and 3 shots per possession due to our poor rebounding. Can we improve that? Probably.
On the flip side they have shot very poorly... Can they improve that? Likely.
Question might be which team improves more on those deficiencies

1. Pat Driscoll sucks and when he comes to Newark I will scream at him for 40 minutes of game time.
2. We are getting called for every single tick tack.
3. We can't make foul shouts. How the F does Ochefu that big oaf shoot better than our guards and sf's.
4. We can beat this team at home I am not impressed.

We are not helping ourself from the stripe. Game would be closer if we hit our FTs. Desi misses two and then blows it on D next time down. Has to learn from that.

11-20 from the line. That's not going to get it done. Year in, year out, some things never change.

The shame of this is that there is no juice in the building, very few students, and a quiet crowd, but it isn't our night.
I was going to say something about that. I thought that place, being on the Nova campus, would be a snake pit. But the crowd is really restrained.

Ochefu owns the paint rebounding & scoring, not to mention defensively.
20 pts/ 17 bounds. Ouch

Refs are evening out the calls now that the game is over. So the stats won't look as bad. I've seen this too many times

Obviously areas to improve, FTs and rebounding but really about what I expected. and the finished strong, Kept competing to the end.

Had no answer for Ochefu tonight. I'd hate to see how many offensive boards they got. That was the difference along with poor games from Angel and Desi. But I like our fight and Zeke played well along with Carrington and Gordon. We needed something from our bigs tonight.

The players fought hard until the end, thought after we had the lead down to 2 pts with about 12 mins left that we had the momentum and would take the lead. Isaiah was hot, but then the refs called him for his 3rd foul and then shortly after Carrington who was on a roll picked up his 3rd foul. Took us out of our rhythm. They were playing very physical going for offensive rebounds and when we got aggressive going for a rebound we got called for a foul. Nova was 26-32 and we were 13-23 from free throw line. I hope the refs give us the same advantage in calls when we play them at home. We can build off this experience.

That's assuming we get lucky enough to have another night from Nova where they're ice cold from deep. If they shoot like normal it's gonna be a long night. Tonight was a golden opportunity! Ugh!!

Their normal percentage is 32%. That's not good. They just shoot a lot of them so it makes them look good because of the volume.

They're not losing in the first round or the second round. That's a very talented team that plays smart and most importantly plays defense.

At least Sweet 16 and probably beyond.

I dont even pretend to know nearly as much about BBall knowledge as you do. I would say two things to this. I am pretty sure this could have been said the previous years. They will likely be a 2 or 3 seed and therefore shouldnt the Sweet 16 be a bare minimum requirement?

I was very unimpressed with them. Ochefu is very good and Hart is very good. However, Arch is one of the most overrated players in the country and they dont do enough offense that goes towards the basket. If they dont hit jump shots (2s or 3s) they are in trouble.

Hey, we all have opinions and in the end that's all they are.

I like this team because of it's experience at the 1 & 5. I also love their defense. That's something that always travels well unlike outside shooting that can take you out in an elimination tournament.

I am more high on Arch than some others and think he's the glue to the team.

My gut...they'll get to the Great 8.

I see it this way, but I'd hedge on the Elite Eight. No doubt about their defense and senior leadership. Love Arcidiacono, too. Also, let's not forget their coach, who just may work out there, too. But that reliance on the 3 is scary. If they can stay hot for six straight games, then they can go all the way, but that is hard. they were off against us, and they are going to play better teams than Seton Hall in the NCAAs. Now, our perimeter D had something to do with that, but they also bricked a good number of wide open looks. It's just tough for teams to win in March that way, as great as they can be on a given night.

With Nova it depends a lot on match ups. If they face a big, very physical, quick team they struggle. We had the physical and quick part but we did not have the big part nor the officials on a neutral court. Big difference. Nova is very good (I think top 5-10 right now good) but it seems like when they either run into that big physical quick team or have an off shooting night they are done.
