The real changes are the attitudes of players, coaches, fans, and media. "Opting out" is now a cool thing to do. It never was that way. You used to show up and play if you were selected. Motivation was always an issue, especially among the top seeds that were near the NCAA cut line. But now people just come out and flat out say we're going to quit or not play, and it's celebrated in our messed up culture today.
