Very good college basketball game so far. Both teams competing hard and playing fairly well. I have said this before, but is there a more overrated player than Arcidiacono? I am not saying he is bad at all and I would take him on SHU in a heartbeat but the pub he gets is crazy. Also, him being POY in the BE is insane.

I look at Arcidiacono like Derek Jeter: you have to watch him to really appreciate him fully. The stats won't tell the full story (Jeter's 3000+ hits notwithstanding).

No, he should not be POY, but he's far exceeded my expectations. Kid is a big-time winner, valuable to them like Derrick Gordon is to us.

Great game. Why was Jenkins and Ochefcu playing with 3 toils so early in the 2nd half?

Disagree. I am not a Yankee fan but Jeter has one of the higher post-war BA for a right hand hitter and is one of the few right handers who's postseason average was equal to his regular season. He also had legit big time offensive number seasons in his prime (just didn't seem like it against the roid guys)

Arch seems to sink when the games get bigger/opponents get better. Also, he literally cannot play defense when put on a good athlete.

Not sure I would vote Nova #1 team in the country. But it is a very good college game

Problem I see with Nova (a lot) is that they really struggle to get anything towards the basket. They even struggled with this in the two games vs Seton Hall. It leaves them open to being on the wrong of foul calls and doesnt leave them a back up when the 3s dont go in

X taking them down. They look very tough tonight. Intense

If they can play this juiced up tonight and fly to Jersey and take it to us on Saturday with a 12:30 tip, they deserve a #1 seed. In other words: we have a legit shot at a HUGE win Saturday.

PS: Hope we get through tomorrow first, HA

Interesting stat with 3 minutes to go X bench out scoring Nova's bench 30-10 , shows how important having a quality bench is. If these two teams meet in the BET final I think I'd go with X because of the quality of their bench.

Sunday. I think they'll be ready...

My error (bad one, sorry) but the point remains. You can tell this has been their Super Bowl. Has probably been their focus since getting throttled in game 1. That is a lot of emotion for a college team. Im not saying it means we win. I am just saying that if they beat us, they deserve all the accolades and all the seeds they get. Would be very impressive

We need to get to this point where we can comfortably put teams away. It's amazing how confidently Xavier played the last ten minutes of this game. They were running slow patient offense and finding their big man for open rim looks at the end of the shot clock. These guys are legit. Having said that, let's catch them in their hangover Sunday.

Villanova is great but their record against teams considered tourney "locks" is now 2-4 (Oklahoma, Virginia, Xavier, PC). We know they can easily beat the bubble teams like SHU, St. Joe's (pa), and Butler, but will they be able to beat quality opponents in the tournament?

If history is a guide the answer would be no

Not exactly a strong resume for a 1 seed. X has nice wins over USC, dayton, cincy. Id have to look closer, but xavier may have the better resume. Sunday is gonna be brutal.

Stupid fouls by nova forwards changed the game. Should be a good rematch in the garden if they make it.

Granted Xavier is a deep and talented team but I don't see how Nova makes a deep run in the NCAAs. They better be praying for matchups against weak front court teams.

Xavier is going to be tough to beat not only the rest of this season but will be just as strong next year and beyond as they lose two players who see a lot of minutes in Farr & Abell but will add 4 very talented players for next year including a legitimate center with one year of eligibility left , 2 PF's and a top 100 PG.Coach Mack in his post-game with Fox said that he thought his depth was a big part of the win and hard to argue with him.

Xavier looks like one of those programs that's going to continue to be a regular tourney team as they are very well coached , recruits well , and they appear to be a team that reloads not rebuilds.

Yes but Macura usually starts and he came off the bench so that stat is a little skewed.

Xavier will definitely be the team to beat next year. Their two current freshmen (sumner and gates) are great and with the upperclassman they have and the newcomers, they will not skip a beat.

Didn't Arch dominate X in the 1st meeting? I don't think he's a star but he's def a great player

I have the same sense. This big emotional effort might leave them vulnerable on Sunday. Hope so, anyway.

I remember an old of poster of Pete Rose. Undeneath the picture was the caption: "Not the most talented. Simply the best!". I think you could say the same about Arcidiacono. Frank

Villanova is a fringe top 10 team.
They have been overrated consistently due to lack of serious competition from the many imperfect BE teams.

They have good peripheral skills and deep in talent on the outside.
Their weak and thin frontcourt is a big ??? for any serious tournament run.

I really, really hope Nova gets a favorable draw over the course of the first weekend of the NCAA's, b/c that team isn't scaring anybody with a solid frontcourt. And like someone else said the other day, I would rather play them in our first game of the BET than Butler.

Nova is a solid top 10-15 team with lack of size and depth up front and they will struggle against teams with both size and depth up front.

I really hope that Nova gets a good draw in the tourney because if they don't make a serious run the critics will be all over the BIGEAST as an overrated conference. However, like I said in a thread earlier this week I don't see them doing damage in the tournament.

maybe not Nova, but X could be a final 4 team. They have the whole package.

Nova lost a road game to a potential number 1 seed. Let's not go crazy.
If Ochefu stays out of foul trouble they will go deep. That's a big if but they are very talented and play great D. I think they will also be motivated as well after last years slip up.

Xavier probably best team in Big East. But I do think if they played Nova in playoff like series, Xavier would win in 7 games.

Before the league season started I noted I thought that Xavier was the best team in the league.

But to be the best you have to beat the best. They did last night but they're still a game behind Nova for the regular season title.

I agree. And it's not a knock on Villanova, who I think can go further than most people do. Xavier seems to have "it."
