This is being reported by B.B. himself via his website and his Facebook page. He is saying his goodbyes. It's shaping up as a terrible weekend for fans of great American music, as Ben E. King died earlier today.

From time to time, I've read opinions by music fans on various sites who think B.B. King is "overrated." It's a woefully uninformed point of view, and generally comes from people who worship at the altar of some of the white guitarists King influenced. In reality, he might well be the most influential electric guitarist ever, and that includes Jimi Hendrix. When B.B. King started making records, the guitar world instantly became a different and better place. If you're one of those people who thinks he's overrated, I urge you to pick up 'B.B. King's Original Greatest Hits,' a two-CD 2005 set that collects 40 of his best '50s and '60s recordings on the Kent and RPM labels. It will rock your world, and force you to reevaluate your opinion of this true American icon.

agreed, Jim.

Modern music as a whole owed a lot to this one man who influenced multiple generations and artists of many different genres.

B.B. King is awesome! Thoughts and prayers to him. We also lost Percy Sledge last month. All great artists!

Saw BB at The Village Gate and The Fillmore East many times. Looking back fondly on B.B. now. The Thrill is Gone. These guys can't be replaced. I still miss Muddy Waters.
Back in those days I spent 80%of my money on booze ,babes and music and the rest I wasted!!

BB King is one of the great blues guitarists of all time. His passing would be a tremendous loss. I was fortunate to have seen him in concert with Ray Charles years ago at Newport Jazz Festival.
