Dan mentioned last week at PrimoHoagies that my old stories were interesting and so I will post this one about NC State.
Armen Keteyian broadcasted a segment on the ABC Evening News that the 1987-88 NC State team was involved in point shaving . I was assigned to investigate the allegations.
For about a year and a half I flew around the country interviewing the players and staff from that team, including Jim Valvano. One team member who was then playing in the NBA told me a funny story about off season employment at NC State. Several players were told to report to a certain business for summer employment. On the first day they took pictures with employees of the company and then told not to report for the rest of the Summer.
The player told this story to a teammate who played at UNC. The UNC player said they had the same employment with only a one day appearance, but the UNC players were paid twice what the NC State players were paid.
