Curious as to what others think? I personally would fire Flood and likely retain JH if I believe that she could pick a terrific FB coach. RU needs to make a good decision re the FB coach or it will be in deeper trouble. I understand that this is way OT.

Fire them both. Only way to start clean with an accountable AD.

On the other hand what serious AD thinks it would be a good career move to come in under Barchi.

Until he is gone there is no hope for RU

Honestly? I'd get RU out of the Big Ten for athletics, they can stay for academics if the Big Ten would have them (same as the University of Chicago). RU should return to the AAC if the still want to think they matter in football or return to the A10 and bring football back to the 1AA level. AAC andBig Ten academics only is probably their best bet. Leave Herman and Flood because at the AAC level they would be fine.

Obviously fire them both. Flood is terrible and only got the job because he was the only guy hanging around when Schiano left. And the AD never had any business getting the job anyway, only being hired for, uh, social reasons. When you hire someone for those reasons you get the ineptitude you deserve.

Of course none of this really matters because Rutgers has zero chance of ever being competitive in the Big Ten in the two sports that actually matter. Whoever they hire for these two jobs will inevitably fail and be fired in five years or so. Their women's soccer program is nice though.

I don't think a highly accomplished person who wants to be a HC or AD, would want to choose RU. They also have the financial issues of having to depend on less subsidies for athletics. Yes the get payed more from BIG, but the is offset with less state and RU tuition money going into the RU athletic black hole.
Honestly I would hire pernetti back because he was responsible for much or the good things that have happened there, except for the way he handled Murdoch. To think that maybe $500,000 would have avoided all the embarrassment with rice and the Hermann.

No one would ever walk away from B10 $. RU is a good school but it will never be confused with U of Chicago, nor would all but a small number of schools.

rutgers is such a mess but get rid of flood and get a new ad too

Julie Herman lost the big donors a few years ago. It's clear she has no respect with the alum at RU and she should have been shown the door a while ago. She would be fired if I was the Prez. Flood has too many thugs on the team and that really hurt him this year. He is an OK coach. If I thought I could do better and hire a better coach I'd fire him too - but who will want that job? Great conference but tough job.

You do what every leader should do and that is when you hire someone and it becomes clear they can't do the job and meet the goals set for them you replace them even if doing so means you take a large financial hit.

I never meant to suggest that Rutgers was the academic equal of the University of Chicago, yikes! I meant that they could stay in the Big Ten for the academic benefits only which is what the University of Chicago does.

The Big Ten money won't offset the money Rutgers spends (wastes) on athletics. They may get more money but they also have to spend a hell of a lot more. One thing Rutgers is good at is wasting money. They will never be competitive in the Big Ten, just like they were never competitive in the Big East. They aren't cut out for high major Division 1 sports. They never should have left the A10. Rutgers always wants to be something they truly are not. They need a major reality check down there in central Jersey!

How Herman ever got that job in the first place is ridiculous. Pernetti did do good things when he was there and was simply made the scape goat for Mike Rice.

Anybody who thinks the should down grade out of the B1G is just plain stupid. In another 4 years they will be a full $$$ member and the $$$s just go up.

Their expenses go up too and the money they think they will get will be more than spent!

The additional B1G money will enable their athletic dept to operate without a university subsidy in a few years. Any other way to look at it or to suggest that down grading their conference membership would make their AD profitable is just plain dellusional.

And there you have the problem. Good luck hiring a quality AD when the President is inept.
h

Barchi was put there by Christie to intergrate the RU Medical school after the Christie Norcross deal. He's just like all the other Chrisite appointees such as Jon Hanson and the PA people 2 of whom are now indicted. I am surprised he is still there as a university president if the medical school reorganization is complete.
