NEW YORK – BIG EAST Senior Associate Commissioner for Sports Media Relations John Paquette was elected as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Third Vice President as approved by the CoSIDA Board in June as part of the #CoSIDA2020 virtual convention.

Paquette has served the BIG EAST Conference for the past 30 years. When the BIG EAST was restructured in 2013, he was one of the first hires by Commissioner Val Ackerman. Similarly in 1990, Paquette was former commissioner Mike Tranghese’s first addition to the league staff. Previous to his role at the conference level, he was the men’s basketball media relations contact for member institution
Seton Hall during the 1989 Final Four run.

Paquette was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in June 2019. He was also previously honored by CoSIDA in 2014 with the Bill Esposito Backbone Award for his handling of the BIG EAST transition. The Esposito Award, which is only awarded when merited, is presented to a CoSIDA member who displays sound judgment and unusual courage in guiding their institution or conference through difficult public relations situations such as numerous membership challenges. In 2007, he was the recipient of CoSIDA’s Arch Ward Award for meritorious service in college sports media relations. He was awarded the 2009 Katha Quinn Award from the United States Basketball Writers Association for outstanding media service and the 2013 Distinguished Service Award from the New York Metropolitan Basketball Writers. Paquette is a former CoSIDA board member, having served a three-year term from 2009-12.

As the Third Vice President, Paquette is on track to be CoSIDA’s President during the 2023-24 academic year.

In addition to Paquette, also elected to serve the 3,100-member CoSIDA organization for the 2020-21 term and in the presidential rotation are First Vice President Cindy Potter, Associate Director of Athletics/Media Relations and Compliance at Columbia College of Missouri; and Second Vice President Jessica Poole, Chicago State Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations and Revenue Generation. The CoSIDA President for 2020-21 is Sam Atkinson, the Associate Athletic Director for Communications at Gallaudet University.
