Trump effect

A lot of it is no surprise as exploiting people for personal gain is kind of his M.O., but the Bible thing to me is the most disturbing and it's dumbfounding how many "Christians" support the man. Even before his Bible grifting it was odd to see so many of them rallying around someone so at odds with Christian values, but then this. How could anyone claiming to have a sincere fear of the Lord have a positive opinion of a man with the pride and audacity to print his own name on the Word and autograph it!? And then sell copies for personal profit of course but those first 2 parts tell you all you need to know about how much he cares about and respects you, your religion, and your God.

Who makes money on selling the Bible? Are they free?

No, they're 60 bucks. It's the Lee Greenwood Bible, which is endorsed by Trump.

The state of Oklahoma received some criticism recently for issuing guidelines on the type of Bible to be ordered and kept in schools in the state because only the $60 Bibles appeared to meet the requirements. Supposedly they amended that but it looks like they still purchased at least some of the Trump Bibles for the schools.

Sorry-Other than trump, who publishes bibles and makes $$ off of same, was my question ….I’ve answered my own question. Many aren’t free and there are several publishers that make $$ off of selling the Bible

Okie dokie. By the way, are they usually $60 a pop?

All over the place it seems. Some less than $10, some are $250 or more. Generally depends on the jacket
Depends on the jacket and the translation. The more expensive ones tend to be more modern language/ easier to read translations - only so many people in the world are experts in and thus qualified to translate the languages the original texts were written in, thus commissioning a new translation is not cheap, nor are the licensing fees for recently commissioned translations.

Trump didn't do that. He took an old, public domain English translation, so he had no licensing fees to cover, then slapped his name on it and sold it for $60. The exact same translation can easily be found under $10 and anyone who charges more is simply trying to rip you off. That's whatever though, plenty of people look to scam other for a quick buck. The really off-putting is that he considers himself worthy of putting his name on it.

i mean trump has been overselling cheap merchandise for a while now. every nickel and dime for him

Just for clarity are we upset that Trump is making money for himself as President or we upset that he's doing it better than the Biden's, Obama's, Bush's and Clinton's?

The money is what it is, that's just him. My criticism is for desecrating the sacred text of so many of his followers... and mostly a criticism of them for being okay with it.

You may not like it but if gets people to read the Bible who normally wouldn’t….isnt that a good thing.

Well I'm admittedly not optimistic that many people are buying his copy for the purpose of reading it, but if they do hopefully the first lesson they take from it is to stop worshipping him as their idol.
From that perspective, my guess is it will likely have the same impact of as those signs hate has no home here. Those signs didn’t help all the people who had them from hating Donald Trump.

can you explain how each one made money as president?

Interesting that Trumps net worth declined after his first term while the others increased dramatically. Trumps going to have to sell a lot of sneakers and watches to fill that hole. Kind of blows the argument that Trump did it to enrich himself.

Look at Bill Clinton….

The decline during his term was primarily because of the value of real estate during Covid.

Trump's net worth is up quite significantly since that update. The value of his DJT stock went from about $1.7B to close to $4B now.
It increased by another $4B with the release of a meme coin last month. No other president has done something as egregious as that one.

this doesn't say anything about making money in office. obama is a brand now, he can be on anything and make money. doesnt mean he did anything in office to enrich himself.

book deals after president? thats legit. nothing wrong with that
