Let's not turn this into another Willard thread. We have enough of those on the board.

Please stay on topic.

Happy Easter to All

Tomorrow begins the Holy Week, and I wanted to start this month's newsletter with a message to our entire Seton Hall University family of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, alumni and fans: I wish you all health, happiness, and love and hope that you are able to celebrate Easter with your families and loved ones.

Introducing our new varsity weight room & team film room

8609283.jpeg

Last week was another milestone in our Pride & Excellence Campaign as we opened the doors to our new varsity weight room and team film room. Our new weight room is over 7,500 square feet, triple the size of our old facility, and features the latest in weights, benches, platforms and cardio equipment. Our new team film room is built amphitheater style and has the latest technology for our student-athletes to be able to study their play and that of their opponents.

As I have always said, our student-athletes are our number one priority and it's our job to provide them the best possible experience both on and off the field/court and we feel that we now have one of the best weight rooms and film rooms in the BIG EAST. Combined with our other facility upgrades we have made in the last two years, including the Fitness Center, prospective student-athletes will see how serious we are about developing leaders and winning championships.

Once again, these projects would not be possible without the generous support of our Pirate Blue donors, and I'd like to thank them for all that they do to ensure our student-athletes receive the best experience possible.

Please take a moment to watch photo gallery of the two new facilities.

Women's Basketball completes historic season

8573718.jpeg

Congratulations to our women's basketball team, which received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament to cap what was an incredible year. The team finished with a school-record 28 victories, including 17 wins at home, was BIG EAST regular season co-champion and tournament runner-up and cracked the national rankings. I could not be more proud of the hard work and effort our young women put in all year to reach their goals, and if you haven't seen the video of the team learning of its NCAA Tournament bid (WATCH HERE), then I highly recommend you take a look and smile. Under head coach and BIG EAST Coach of the Year Tony Bozzella, our women's basketball program is poised to continue its success into the future.

Special congratulations to Ka-Deidre Simmons, who was named an Associated Press honorable mention All-American yesterday!

We had tremendous support from our season ticket holders, who helped us set an all-time high in women's basketball season tickets sold, and we encourage you to renew your season tickets in May. More information to come in the next few weeks.

Donor Matching Day coming April 30

7874431.jpeg

We are excited about our fourth annual Donor Matching Day, which will take place on Thursday, April 30. It has become an integral part of our athletics department and arguably is the most important day on the Pirate Blue calendar. All donations made to Pirate Blue on April 30 will be generously matched by one donor at 30 percent. In addition, an anonymous donor will also give an additional $50,000 if at least one person from each of the 50 U.S. states donates on that day.

Last year, Pirate Blue set a single-day record for contributions, raising over $193,000 for the benefit of enhancing the Seton Hall student-athlete experience. With your generosity and support, we hope to exceed that total this year. And if you are able to visit campus on April 30, I encourage you to stop by Walsh Gymnasium to participate in our Donor Matching Day festivities.

Men's Basketball season ticket renewals in May

8612262.jpeg

We have a very loyal men's basketball season ticket holder base, and we're excited to announce that season ticket renewals will take place in the month of May, when we will be introducing "Win it Wednesdays." We will have prizes each week for fans who renew their men's basketball season tickets, and the sooner you renew, the more chances you'll have to win one of the grand prizes that will be awarded each Wednesday in the month of May.

Last season, we averaged 7,998 fans, our highest average attendance since moving into the Prudential Center, and with a talented Pirates team coming back next season, we look forward to raising that number next season with your support!

Be on the lookout for more information on season ticket renewals later this month.

Student-Athletes in the community

8598376.jpeg

Our student-athletes always do an outstanding job of giving back to the community and raising awareness for good causes. Last week members of our men's golf and volleyball teams visited Rosa Parks Elementary School in Orange, N.J., to read to over 250 students as part of the Read Across America initiative. "Reading with the Pirates" is a fun and rewarding experience for our student-athletes, and I am grateful for having such outstanding young men and women eager to participate. For more information on this event, click here.

Also last week our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its fourth-annual Gatorade Pong Tournament helping to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, with all proceeds going towards Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). It's another example of how our student-athletes are leaders among their peers as they step up to promote a worthy cause and try to make a difference in the world. Spring Sports update

Our spring sports are off to a strong start, and we're only a couple of weeks away from championship season!

Our baseball team has won five games in a row and 11 of its last 13 as it has gained momentum heading into BIG EAST play, which kicks off Thursday at Xavier. The team has nine home conference games coming up, beginning April 17 vs. Butler, so don't miss out on the action!

Our softball team is coming off an important sweep of Villanova at home last weekend to even its BIG EAST record at 3-3 as the team chases a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. The team is headed to Providence and Creighton next week, but be sure to catch them in action at home April 18 vs. St. John's!

Our women's golf team is gearing up to defend its BIG EAST title with a home invitational tournament this weekend at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. If you have a chance to visit the course, I highly encourage you to check it out. The Pirates will then compete at the BIG EAST Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 16-18 at the LPGA International. Best of luck to the team and hope they bring home the trophy once again!

Our men's golf team is coming off a strong performance in Baltimore at the Towson Invitational last weekend, led by Lloyd Jefferson Go's individual title. The Pirates have two more tournaments to play in before the BIG EAST Championship in Callawassie Island, S.C. April 26-28 at the Callawassie Island Golf Course. Best wishes and good luck to the team as they chase the championship!

Lastly our women's tennis team has posted conference victories over Villanova and Providence over the last 10 days and will compete against St. John's DePaul and Marquette in the coming weeks. The Pirates will then head to Indianapolis to compete in the BIG EAST Championship April 23-26. Best of luck to the team and hoping they too can bring home the trophy!

LOL win it wednesdays.... is that foreshadowing that we're only going to win games on wednesdays?

A lot of good stuff in there on our flagship sport. but it makes sense its not like the fans of that sport have any sort of questions or concerns about it.

Great to see Tony and the women continue to get the accolades. Interesting that no mention of the coach of the mens team....lol

Literally the only thing our AD has had to say about the men's basketball program since the debacle of a season ended is "be sure to renew your season tickets." You can't make this stuff up.

You see what Seton Hall thinks of you. Open your eyes people.

They're "excited" for next season and the season ticket renewal event?

They are either all liars or they are outside of their minds.

Or both.

Let the good times roll...

Oh. Hello Pat. I was under the impression that you had taken a leave of absence.

How can Pat 'the phantom ' Lyons bring up season ticket renewals and donation challenge when he hasn't said one word about kw and his crash and burn to end the season..

Use that language one more time and you are through on this site!!!!!!

No more warnings will be given!

No Dan my following comments are not about " he who you asked not be named." Pat was absolutely right to point out the tremendous job the fans did in setting a record for average attendance at the Rock last season and to recognize the various fund-raising results that were achieved last year. I would have hoped his letter would have recognized as well the increased student attendance and their enthusiasm at the games but it didn't.jThe majority of those achievements can be tied to our outstanding freshman class and the belief that the basketball program had bottomed out and we were starting the climb back up. Well the season results speak for themselves and need not be repeated here.

Yet I find myself, and I know I'm not alone in saying this, left completely puzzled by the lack of any comment in the AD's report about what an incredibly horrible season we just completed and how the results of that season are unacceptable and a fan base that showed its support by attending games and in their financial support deserve much better. Why is it we see those types of statements from other AD's whether it be at Indiana or
Oklahoma State or at Michigan after a disastrous football season but not at Seton Hall.

This past season and its results are evident for all to see and to ignore it or pretend it didn't happen make no sense and , speaking just for myself, left me highly disappointed .

The AD letter is always going to accentuate the positive as it should. It's never going to do a wo is me or say please fans I hope you come back. That would be failing PR 101. Some of the comments on this thread are hysterical.

I wonder how big of a drop they are projecting in season tickets/walk-up sales next year. It has to be substantial.

Fans everywhere love a Mea Culpa . Every professional spin doctor discussing the A-Rod case repeatedly talked about the biggest mistake he made was not in admitting his use of banned substances. Look at all the crap Braun got for his problem while Andy Pettite skated because he was up-front with the public and the media.. PR 101 is get in front of a story, never play catchup to a story and never try to pretend it never happened. Any report , whether it be a corporate annual report or an AD discussing a season will always emphasize the positives but it also can not fail to discusses , if it happened , where results didn't meet expectations.

I still believe that Lyons not addressing this year's basketball results is a major mistake and I've haven't heard one arguement to convince me otherwise.

I think the opposite. Owning up to the fact that Willard has done a bad job over the past 5 years might placate a few season ticket holders for a couple of weeks, but it does nothing to move the program forward. Willard and staff still have to recruit. To help with that, the school is better off jamming home the (false) theme that Willard is a superstar in the making and has the full support of the University. Addressing this past season obviously detracts from that theme.

+1. A newsletter about the entire athletic department is not the place to do a mea culpa. Wrong vehicle.

There is really nothing to say at this point which is curious to see that Pat Hobbs has made statements. The fact that he did says a lot about our ineptitude. Either don't say anything or have the AD make a statement. Why didn't Pat just shut up?

Don't you think that every parent of and every HS and AAU coach of every player we recruit knows what the deal is at Seton Hall , what happened this season and knows that KW will be on every media's pundit list of Coaches on the Hot Seat in 2015/2016? Don't you think that every coach at every school recruiting the same player we are will point out the shaky ground our coach is on and what transpired this last season?

hallgrad80 you are talking pro sports examples. Much much different than how college sports are run.

Also Pat Lyons knows exactly what he is doing. He knows all the top donors and reaches out to them directly during the year. He also uses other vehicles like the AD letter to reach out to all folks at SHU which is way more than any AD has ever done that I can remember. If you want a mea culpa you are not gonna get it nor should he give one.

Pat Lyons has ZERO clue as to what he is doing regarding this matter. If he had one iota of an idea as to what to do here, our program would be in an upward trajectory rather then a downward spiral. He would have somehow figured out a way to alleviate the problem, if you get my drift. Instead the entire program is at a standstill with our only hope being that next year will bring about a major change. Unfortunately, even that is very far from a certainty.

So much for letting this thread stand on its own. You are going to have to accept that SHU has handled this masterfully. They did a thorough job getting the word out that Willard is staying to Fox, the beat writers and News 12. ESPN hasn't said a word (not that I would necessarily expect them to). Everyone inside the four walls of campus are on the same page; there are no leaks. You can be sure HS and AAU coaches know Willard has the firm backing of the administration. What they choose to do with that information is up to them.

The real issue for you is you don't like the message.

Yes, I do think that. But what good does it do for the school to torpedo his recruiting efforts also?

The intemperate are back out today. There is still a few days for all of you to give up your inane rants for lent.

We are lucky to have lyons. He has done more for SHU athletics than anyone after Richie R.

Personalty I thank the Lord we have Pat as our AD. I'll leave it at that because anything else I say is just going to be met with skepticism because of Willard's performance to date.

Something tells me we're going to keep seeing pictures of the slick new varsity weight room and film room in these newsletters for the next year. Accomplishment for the ages. We built a gym and a home theatre.

"Win it Wednesdays" is closely associated with the old Opie and Anthony "Whip em Out Wednesday". New crossover promotion.

No way they will get even close to last year's attendance numbers.

Pat's the best but he is hog tied with KW who will be gone by next year at this time.

So we just have to wait it out.

KW knows that barring a miracle, he's gone.
