AD Newsletter - July 2016

Pirate Fans, I hope that you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and are enjoying your summer! While we are enjoying our time in the sun, we are also setting our sights on the 2016-17 season! It is less than one month before our first team reports for training camp!
Student-Athletes Once Again Make The Grade

9387468.jpeg

I may sound like a broken record, but our student-athletes are intelligent and committed to academic excellence!

Once again, as I have been able to say for every semester of my tenure here as Director of Athletics, our student-athletes have set a new record for cumulative department grade-point average. Following the Spring 2016 semester, our student-athletes collectively have a 3.373 GPA! This is the 12 th consecutive semester that the cumulative GPA has climbed to a new high.

We are very proud of the academic achievements our student-athletes have reached, and they are indicative of the hard work and effort they put into their studies. I'd like to thank them, as well as our academic support services staff and our coaches, for all that they do to make this success possible.

Community Enrichment & H.A.L.L. Program Year in Review

In addition to the academic success our student-athletes have achieved, they are also outstanding citizens in the community. As announced by the H.A.L.L. Program, our student-athletes set a new standard for community enrichment with 3,168 volunteer hours during the 2015-16 academic year.

Among the many events and initiatives our student-athletes participated in are: Freshman Move-In Day, Grow-A- Row, Reading with the Pirates, the Pen Pal Program, One Shirt One Body, Thanksgiving Basket Deliveries and visits to Barnabas Medical Center to interact with children.

We are very proud that in addition to their athletic and academic commitments our student-athletes make time to make a difference in the lives of others.

All year our student-athletes are making a difference and enriching their own lives, and the H.A.L.L. Program has encompassed all of the initiatives and activities they have done in its 2015-16 Year in Review newsletter. I highly encourage you to give it a read, including a Q&A with swimming & diving alumnus Joey Lacus, who has an exciting job in New York.

We continue to make progress on the construction happening in the Recreation Center lobby. The first two photos above are pictures of the lobby and the administrative offices as they stand today. The third and fourth photos are pictures of the casework construction that will become part of our new Hall of Fame display. We are very excited to have the finished product and cannot wait to share it with you all!

Thank You For Your Support!

As another academic year has come to a close and a new one begins, I want to extend a great thank you to all our Pirate Blue members who have supported our student-athletes and coaches not just financially but also emotionally and physically. Without you, we would not be able to accomplish all the great things we have written about throughout the year.

While the final numbers are not complete yet, I can tell you that Pirate Blue once again has set a new annual fundraising record, surpassing $2.5 million!

We are already thinking about once again setting a new record in 2016-17! If you are able to contribute to enhance the student-athlete experience at Seton Hall, you can make your tax-deductible gift now by clicking here.
