Pee Wee is gone

I moved to NYC in 78 and lived on Bleecker and Broadway. This oddly dressed guy would walk past the apt bldg once in a while. I guess around 1980 or so I found out who it was.

And why Halldan1 did we need to have a Peewee Herman post on this forum? I'm asking because this is all over the news, web etc.. and seems completely out of place on this Pirate Hoops forum. You are the moderator and I understand you can and will post whatever you want but there is so much stuff on this forum than seems not even remotely close to colllege basketball news or discussion that begs the question. What in the heck is going on here?

I can think of tons of stuff to post like a review of each player now on the roster and their stats from previous years and bios.

Go over players from past teams and seasons and present their bios and stats.

A review of the teams we will be playing out of conference and in conference too!

We are only 3 months away from the start of a new season so we should be getting excited about the players and scheduled.

Dan posted a three part interview with Mike McBride on Hoops Chat a week ago, and got ZERO comments. At least PeeWee was able to get responses. 🤣

My god. It’s July 31st.

Yeah, that gets posted all summer on the trove. If Dan runs interviews and posts original content on here, what purpose does the trove serve and why would anyone join?

RIP Paul. Good guy that made a lot of people smile over the years. One of fun memories of the 80's. I'll have a tequila for him tonight...without doing the dance.

You must be fun at parties!

"Then, in 2002, he became the subject of even more scandal when police claimed they found dozens of child pornography images and memorabilia in his home.

The child porn charges were ultimately dropped, in exchange for Paul pleading guilty to a lesser charge of possession of an obscene image." Daily Mail

Herman is a disturbing figure. His public masturbation was troublesome enough. Not sure why we are celebrating him.

R.I.P. Paul Reubens: Pee-wee Herman Actor Dead at 70

By Greta Bjornson @greatbjornson

Paul Reubens, the actor known for creating and portraying the character of Pee-wee Herman, has died. Reubens was 70. His death was confirmed in a tribute posted to his Facebook page July 31.

“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,” the tribute read.

It continued, “Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”

A posthumous statement from Reubens was posted to his Instagram after his passing Sunday night (July 30), revealing he had been battling cancer for six years. His statement read, “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years. I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”

Reubens’ rep Don Birge confirmed his passing to Decider, saying in a statement, “Paul was beloved and he will be terribly missed.”

Reubens began his career as Pee-wee in the ’80s after joining the Groundlings in the years prior. He debuted The Pee-wee Herman Show in 1980 and subsequently earned his own HBO special. In 1985, he partnered with Tim Burton on Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.

His additional Pee-wee projects included the series Pee-wee’s Playhouse, which ran from 1986 to 1990; plus the films Big Top Pee-wee (1988), Christmas at Pee-wee’s Playhouse (1988) and Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (2016).

Aside from his work as Pee-wee, Reubens also appeared in dozens of hit shows throughout his career, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Murphy Brown, Everybody Loves Raymond, Ally McBeal, Reno 911!, 30 Rock and Pushing Daises. His most recent credit is listed on IMDb as 2021’s The Crown with a Shadow, in which he voiced Oliver.

While Reubens was known for his comedy chops and extensive acting credits, he also experienced some legal woes during his time in the spotlight. The actor was arrested for indecent exposure in 1991 when he exposed himself in a Florida adult theater. In 2002, he ran into trouble with the law again after turning himself in to police on a child pornography possession charge.

The charges were dropped in 2004 after Reubens agreed to plead guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge of possessing obscene images of minors.

Reubens later said in a 2004 NBC interview, “I don’t want anyone for one second to think that I am titillated by images of children. It’s not me.” He continued, “You can say lots of things about me. And you might. The public may think I’m weird. They may think I’m crazy or anything that anyone wants to think about me. That’s all fine. As long as one of the things you’re not thinking about me is that I’m a pedophile. Because that’s not true.”

According to Variety, Reubens was planning two projects prior to his death: the black comedy The Pee-wee Herman Story and the film Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Movie.

The Christian faith believes in this concept of contrition and redemption. Christians are supposed to be forgiving by nature.

Paul screwed up in his private life and turned things around, and had a positive influence in his career. He was never convicted of possessing child pornography, and his indiscretion took place in a XXX theater. He didn't prey on children as did many upstanding people in my Catholic upbringing.

interesting that a catholic priest who should preach forgiveness can look past his own house to condone Paul Reubens.

I've been Catholic my whole life and the hypocrisy is mind boggling. Some of the most important figures in our religion were misguided individuals who repented. We all make mistakes.

Paul proclaimed himself the biggest sinner. Matthew was a tax collector - at that time tax collectors did unspeakable things. We all have to be more forgiving.

I wasn't condemning him but simply questioning why hecwas being celebrated. Why do you guys always have to drag the Catholic clergy abuse crisis into any assertion I make on a controversial subject? You guys should try that forgiveness thing in regard to the Catholic Church. 😄

Don't know anything about his private life but must have watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure 50 times as a kid in the 80s and could probably still recite most of the lines. More recently I liked his performance as Derek Foreal in Blow.

Father you have a collar on so we are looking for you and all priests to be the example. Like it or not all of our professions come with responsibility even though we may not all be up to it everyday.
I know you added the smiley face but will never forgive the Catholic church for that. Never. I just had a conversation with a friend whose brother tried multiple times to kill himself and is so messed up many years later from being abused by a priest. He is now 60 years old and will never be the same. Destroyed his life. It's a permanent and vulgar and loud tarnish on the church that will never and should never be forgotten or forgiven IMO. The leaders of the church still have not done enough IMO. Please pray for him.

I’ll go with the old standby. True today as it ever was. You don’t like a post? Don’t read it.

Nobody set out to attack the clergy, we were eulogising Reubens. Reubens committed an illegal act upon himself and apologized, paying a hefty price. Despite his actions, he was a positive influence for children and young adults. The ability to forgive and celebrate the man for his body of work, shouldn't be difficult to understand. When I view judgemental comments from the clergy it rings hollow, as history has shown that we all make mistakes.

We are getting way off track. RIP Paul Reubens!

All day long. My favorite scene is when he drives the motorcycle through the sign.

He got arrested for having a massive amount of child porn.

Untrue. He had a large collection of antique erotica. Ultimately a misdemeanor charge. One that would likely not be brought today. Don’t just go with the headlines. Get all the facts. That’s the problem with everything today. We believe the headlines.

If it was as you said he would be a registered sex offender. Which he wasn’t.

Not a defense of porn. Just can’t stand the loose facts.

My fact were not loose. To be arrested for porn in nyc, it has to be really bad. And it was child porn. Erotica is a euphemistic label for porn. That the prosecutor decided to downgrade the charge to a misedemeanor does not surprise me because entertainment figures often are treated by a different set of rules. Michael Jackson is a prime example of that. I think you guys are guilty of the same unequal treatment of an entertainment figure who was a danger to children.

When you're in a hole, stop digging.

We expect clergy to be more understanding and forgiving than the average person. Being arrested and being convicted are very different outcomes. You expressed dismay that members can't forgive clergy for luring and sexually abusing minors, and you're hung up on someone possibly looking at photos. Can you not see the hypocrisy?

Does anyone know if this poster ( Catholicman ) is actually a priest ? Just curious, not judging.

You have a reading comprehension problem or simply a malicious will toward me. I suggested those offenses as forgivable. (Our Lord spoke of a millstone!) But i was requesting posters who are angry at the Church as an institution to try to forgive.
