Philly

Huh? I was talking about him possibly making a campaign swing through Philadelphia in the final days. He has very little to lose and may siphon off a few votes that he wouldn't ordinarily get as SHUHoopsFan said. Could make the difference in a state that should be very close either way.
With early voting and mail-in, are there enough votes out there left to be cast to make a difference? I honestly don't know.

probably not. mail in and hand in votes have been really popular up until now.

I put my ballot in a drop box this morning. I've never voted early in my life, always at the polls on election day (as it should be). With the switch to mail in (not sure how it is in other states), I'm sure many people have already voted.

Governor Wolf (PA) strongly suggested yesterday that you either hand deliver your ballot to a drop box or county office rather than put it in the mail. Not much confidence there in the USPS.

On another note, my one daughter who works in Manhattan (commutes in from NJ) was told this week (email from the CEO) to WFH Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week as they expect there will be civil unrest in the city.

you didnt wanna drop it off on election day after putting up all that stink? seems like your vote got accounted for just fine, no funny business. and you didnt have to deal with all the election day bs that goes on.

so what was your real issue with it?

voting in person (handoff or election day) is just a method that removes any doubt, doesnt necessarily mean there is definitely doubt. makes complete sense.

Who here hasn't paid for overnight shipping for something you needed to get somewhere in 2 days just in case?

The less ballots coming in the day after election day, the better... Try to remove the risk of a court battle for your vote.

I told you what my issue was. Mailing ballots to everyone should not have happened. You should request an absentee ballot if you need one, otherwise get your butt to the voting both and do it in person on election day. New Jersey did not give us that option this year.

why should it not have happened? sounds like you dont have a justified reason other than you dont like it and it will cause more people to vote whom you dont side with.

everyone should be able to votw feom there home. in person voting sites are antiquated and used to hinder voters.

I find it interesting how the excuse for most of these cases is the suspect having a "mental health episode." Convienent.

What's your opinion on mass shooters then, when a good amount of them have been by white people and are racially motivated yet we attribute it to mental health. The current President even put out a statement in 2019 about mass shootings in Dayton/Texas and attributed it to mental health. Is the President making an "excuse' for their actions?

This is what gets me: There is no such thing as a non-peaceful protest. Those are called riots and if you (collectively, not you individually) are not going to acknowledge that, the rest is just divisive noise.
I acknowledge that the majority of protests are peaceful and there have been a minority that started peaceful and became violent. I don't care what you want to call it. There are people on the left as well as on the right inciting violence. Look no further than Charlottesville. If there is stealing and violence going on its wrong, period and there need to be consequences. however if all you care about is the looting and not interested in why this happened in the first place, then that is part of the problem. I don't think there is an easy answer, but we have to have conversation and vote for leaders who care about these issues.

I actually saw an interesting documentary on Netflix about the history of elections and voter suppression. The US is one of the few nations that has election day on a random Tuesday in November. They gave a good example for why it is an inconvenience for a lot of working people. Imagine if you are a single parent with 3 kids that you have to get ready for school, you have to go work and can't get off in time to go to the polls, and have multiple after school activities, you could easily miss the window to vote. I could see this being an issue for a large amount of Americans.

A good amount of nations either have multiple days you can vote, make it a national holiday, or offer it on the weekend. After filling out my ballot I could totally see how you can also mess it up. If you don't read every step carefully your ballot can easily not be counted.

Crazy people who should be put to death once tried and convicted (if they're still alive after committing the crime).

The short answer is that anyone can request an absentee ballot if they had a possible hardship of being able to vote on Election Day. We could make it a national holiday, sure. The problem with multiple days is that you need volunteers (and availability of the location) for multiple days. Many states have had issues this year staffing the polls.

Both parties are complicit with the system we have. Why don’t we have a standardized voting process with a national ID card?

nobody freaks out when they got shot...thats the whole point. they feel bad for the victims and then start with the mental illness peice but nobody uses it as a reason the police shouldnt take action.

but people like you completely ignore that massive peice of context as a reason just to try to make it a race issue

body cam and 911 calls out. as expected this situation simply couldnt have been treated any other way. guy was coming at the officers with the knife. sister called the police told them he had a violent record and she was worried about the parents. officers tried rushing the man to the hospital right after the good shoot. The optics look bad with the mom there and that 2 officers emptied their clips from distance.

the officers were 25 and 26 yrs old.

from what i can tell philly leaders are doing a good job backing the officers. body cam footage cops, it helps you.

I watched the video and the officers encountered a difficult situation and had to make a tough choice. What I do find telling is the family does not blame the officers and did not want any charges to be filed against them. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference or not, but the officers did not have tasers and the district attorney acknowledged that they could do a better job of teaching deescalation tactics. It might not have helped in this case, but hopefully with the next mental health crisis call it may go differently.

It is very similar to work in the hospital. Many of our traumas/codes are recorded and we go back and rewatch and critique. Many times we see that the patient had no chance of survival, but it does allow us to pick up opportunities where we could do better and save the next one. The department has some work to do in building trust with the public because for black families with a child suffering from a mental health crisis people may now be more hesitant to call 911 for help out of fear of a similar situation happening.
