NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT men's basketball team will host the Seton Hall men's basketball team on Saturday, Oct. 28 for an exhibition game benefiting Team Walker, a charity led by Jersey City, N.J. native and Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Famer Jerry Walker '03.
Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Wellness and Events Center on the campus of NJIT in Newark. Information regarding tickets will be announced by NJIT next week. Tickets will be available at www.NJITtix.com and at the NJIT Box Office on the day of the event.
"We are thrilled to get a chance to play against a premier program in Seton Hall and an elite coach in Shaheen Holloway," said first-year NJIT Head Coach Grant Billmeier '07, who spent a decade on the Pirates' coaching staff. "It will be an honor to have Seton Hall in our building, helping to support a great cause in Team Walker. I hope both programs get to play in front of a great crowd on October 28."
Team Walker was founded by Jerry and Jasper Walker in 1996 and its mission reads: to improve the quality of life for the children of Jersey City through academic and recreation programs that empower the children's mind, bodies, and souls.
"Playing this game is not just a great preseason test for our team but it raises funds and awareness for a tremendous organization in Team Walker," said second-year Seton Hall head coach Shaheen Holloway '00. "Everyone here at Seton Hall is excited for Coach Billmeier and his well-deserved opportunity at NJIT. We know that he will have his team ready to play on October 28."
Team Walker's programs are offered through a structured academic and recreational environment that teaches Determination, Dedication, and Discipline, the "3-Ds" that Jerry credits to his success. Programs provide positive role models to encourage students to realize their capabilities, enjoy a sense of accomplishment, and provide an opportunity to increase their quality of life for years to come.
NJIT and Seton Hall have met six times in the regular season, all at the Prudential Center in Newark.
