Seton Hall All-Time vs. Providence: 56-58
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Coming off of its first BIG EAST victory of the season on Wednesday, the Seton Hall men's basketball team travels to Providence to take on the Friars at 5 p.m. on Saturday on CBS Sports Network.
  • Saturday's game will be the 115th all-time meeting between Seton Hall and Providence.
  • A fellow charter member of the BIG EAST Conference, Providence is Seton Hall's third-most common opponent.
  • The two teams have split the last six meetings and four of those contests were decided by single digits.
  • Providence is 29-6 in regular season home games at Amica Mutual Pavilion the last two seasons and two of those losses have come against Seton Hall.
  • The first was an 82-58 drubbing of the Friars in head coach Shaheen Holloway's first season on 3/4/23 and the second came last season, a 61-57 Pirates victory on 1/3/24.
  • The Hall trails the all-time series against Providence, 56-58, but its 39-35 against the Friars in BIG EAST regular season games.
  • With its win over DePaul on Wednesday, head coach Shaheen Holloway improves to 60-27 (.690) from January to March the last four full seasons, including a 23-11 mark in the month of January.
  • Holloway has stated that his team's get better as the season goes along and the numbers back that up:

Holloway Record By Month, Last 4 Full Seasons (excluding 2020-21)
November: 15-15*
December: 12-18*
January: 23-11*
February: 19-12
March: 18-4
Nov.-Dec.: 27-33 (.450) Jan.-March: 60-27 (.690)
* includes this season

  • The overtime win over the Blue Demons improved Holloway's coaching record in overtime games to 9-3, including a 3-1 mark as head coach of the Pirates.
  • Dylan Addae-Wusu scored 24 points and dished out seven assists, both personal bests in his Seton Hall career, against DePaul.
  • Addae-Wusu is five assists away from 400 career assists and one steal shy of 200 career steals.
  • Addae-Wusu and Creighton's Ryan Kalkbrenner share the lead among active players with 82 career BIG EAST games played.
  • Isaiah Coleman also scored 24 points against the Blue Demons, making him the first Pirate since Myles Powell in 2019-20 to score at least 15 points in The Hall's first four BIG EAST games of the season.
  • Coleman has scored in double-figures in seven of his last eight games including three consecutive 20-point performances against BIG EAST teams.
  • Over his last six games, Coleman is averaging 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
  • Trailing only Villanova's Eric Dixon, Coleman ranks second in the BIG EAST averaging 22.5 points per contest in four conference games.
  • After struggling from the free-throw line through the first month of the season, Seton Hall has bounced back in its last six games shooting 71 percent (89-of-126) from the stripe.
  • The Hall ranks fifth in the BIG EAST shooting 76 percent from the line in conference games.
  • Seton Hall has held eight opponents under 65 points this season.
  • The Pirates rank 74th in KenPom defensive efficiency and 40th in scoring defense (64.9 ppg).
  • Seton Hall ranks seventh in Div. I in non-steal turnover percentage by KenPom, a metric that measures turnovers such as traveling, offensive fouls and shot clock violations.
  • After grabbing a season-high 22 offensive rebounds against the Georgetown, Seton Hall now ranks third in the BIG EAST averaging 12.1 offensive rebounds per game.
  • The Pirates rank third in the BIG EAST in bench points averaging 23.1 points per contest.
  • The Pirates are 4-1 on the season when Chaunce Jenkins is their leading scorer.

So, the chance to put some life into the season has arrived. I still believe that even if they lose the next two they will give SJU all they could want. Should they find a way to get one or both of these road games they will have a reasonable chance to compile some wins. The Providence game will be telling.
