South Orange, N.J. — An impressive campaign for the Seton Hall women's soccer team continued on Sunday at Owen T. Carroll Field as the Pirates nearly came away with three points in a 1-1 draw against No. 12 Georgetown.

It marked the first time that the Pirates (6-5-3, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) earned points against the Hoyas since a 3-2 victory over Georgetown on Sept. 16, 2011. Junior Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) continued her historic season with her 11th goal of the year in the second half.

How It Happened

Seton Hall succeeded in the first half in executing its pressing style by making the Hoyas uncomfortable in their own half of the field. Coupled with another strong performance by the Pirates' backline, made up of junior Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany), junior Rachel Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.), freshman Lily Camacho (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and freshman Gia Milano (Scotch Plains, N.J.), Seton Hall was able to stifle the Georgetown attack through the first 45 minutes.

With the game still tied at 0-0 entering the 58th minute, the Pirates were awarded a free kick nearly at midfield. Camacho stepped up and sent a bouncing kick into The Hall's attacking half to Tavana, who passed it to Lipton on the left side before one-touching it back to Tavana. Tavana found some open space in the middle of the and rocketed a shot from roughly 25 yards out that went off the hands of Georgetown's leaping keeper and into the back of the net. The goal was Seton Hall's first against the Hoyas since that win back in 2011.

Despite defending for a majority of the second half following the Tavana goal, the Pirates were comfortable thwarting the Hoyas' attack. However, the Hoyas finally cashed in with the equalizing goal just shy of four minutes remaining in the match.
