Senior Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) collected a career-high 23 kills, while Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) and Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) had double-doubles and the Pirates outlasted Butler, 3-2 (21-25, 25-15, 28-26, 24-26, 15-11) on Friday. After dropping the opening set, the Pirates rallied to win three of the final four sets to claim its third five-set victory in the last four matches. Two of those wins coming against DePaul and Butler who the Pirates entered tonight tied with for the sixth and final BIG EAST Tournament spot.
Lucas was elite, collecting 23 kills, only two attack errors, a .583 attack percentage and five blocks.
On Saturday, Graduate student Madeline Matheny (Wilmington, Del.) had a double-double and the Pirates won the opening set, but Xavier rallied for a four-set victory, 3-1 (25-21, 16-25, 22-25, 5-25).
